Na didn't mean to say you shouldn't, actually I felt inspired by it But it's unusual with older GPUs (as far as I encountered it and overclocking), usually there's some headroom to OC without artifacts, so I get why you're asking.
Thanks I dont know yet, I'll do more testing tonight. First thing I did when I installed the card was to run a quick 1 min Heaven to see what the factory OC was. I dont remember what it was now but I think it was 1898MHz after throttle (from 1914 I belive). Next step is to decrease MSIAB OC to +90 which should put the clock to somewhere around 2013 area, I'll see how that works. Point is to get rid of the red dots and the black vertices (?) Really? I suppose it depends who you're asking at the store Well I definitely learned something here. And also got a really bad sample (OC wise) But...this doesn't mean the card is slow, on the contrary it's pretty fast actually comparing to my old 980Ti (which will find a new home today). Playing Witcher 3 and seeing numbers like 100-110 FPS is magic and actually something I only got with 980Ti SLI. I had bad scaling with 980Ti SLI but funny how the 1080 performs like 980Ti SLI for me but with zero noise and heat. And this is why I'm happy with the card
You should put a water AIO on it and you can add another +100 on the core. Like mine . Its all about the heat.
That's the thing...what heat? I've never seen it above 72 degrees. I tried something the other day, fans at max and clock at 2101MHz. Temps dropped down to 55 degrees but I got a lot of artifacts. I dont want to waste 180 dollars to get AIO if it's still gonna artifact. I just think I got unlucky on the chip lottery Check this post (I actually quoted you there).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uID_4Hh-QQ8 Amazing perfomance in crysis 3, I just cant belive that this demanding game is playable not only with 4xMSAA, but even 8xMSAA . I have also realized, that my i5 3570K @4.4GHz is too old for 1080GTX, I have 50fps dips in the same area no matter what reasolution I will use (so I think these are CPU limited areas on my 3570K), and it looks like i7 skylake holds 100 fps in the same place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bqi2dEqCyH4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PF5j7KDb2Oo Here's one video with 1080GTX paired with i7 Skylake, and another one with 3570K. Even with MSAAx8 settings framerate is noticeable lower on 3570K compared to skylake i7. There are also some other games like gta 5 and watch dogs where my CPU will be limiting performance, so even with 980ti I would see dips below 60 fps on my 3570K. It looks like I have to buy not only new GPU, but also CPU+mobo because clearly my 3570K is too old for 1080GTX.
