This looks interesting, "ancient" amd's cpus are not that much worse than new intel's cpus.

Always happens on that website. Same goes for Steam users reviews/forums. You have to put up with the retards.

    Those benchmarks from GameGpu are totally wrong, my specs : 2500K@4.2ghz / 16 gigs DDR3 / R9 290 ( gpu@1050 / Vram@1300 ), minimum fps : 70 ( most of the time around 100fps ) with just shadows to medium, everything else to ultra ( anti aliasing : smaa 1tx ).

From the review ”It is also worth noting disastrous drop AMD graphics cards with ultra settings this phenomenon occurs in some places, in most scenes longer heavy, but it is this stage we have chosen to test, since it is this is an indicator for the discomfort.”
Bad translation put aside I think it means that they tested the game in a scene where they noticed fps drops for AMD cards.

I understand but...i don't go under 70fps with almost all settings on ultra ( i mean NEVER ), 6 friends of mine with same Gpu ( except one with R9 290X ) are reporting the same perf , and 4 other friends with GTX 960 are reporting 50/60 fps average...on medium settings...so....no , GameGpu benchmarks are wrong.

    o.0 how?
    my specs 2500k@4.5GHz / 8GB DDR3 / R9 290 (1150/1500)
shadows on low and the rest on high my fps is between 50-120 with smaa 1tx as AA.
Only played the first 2 missions but frames start dropping below <60 whenever i was in combat with a group of demons and sometimes when i was just walking around.

    You're not using the same settings. Put shadows back up and you will see the correct results, which is related to this comment by the engine guy;

Exactly. Those benchmarks were done using the ultra perset I'm guessing which means shadow quality is on ultra. Shadow quality seems to kill performance on AMD GPU's right now. I have the same thing with my 390X. I can put everything on the absolute highest setting, except shadow quality and stay at or above 60 FPS. I have shadows dropped down to high.

I'v tested it, all settings on ultra, minimum fps : 58 ( lasting like 2 seconds..), average fps : around 75, max fps : 110...

Crimson 16.5.2, using DDU, some basic RadeonMod tweaks, tesselation to 8x.

Did you notice the benchmarks use "Maximum quality" settings?

On the otherhand, this is the great thing about PC gaming; we can tailor the settings for our individual systems to maintain high-fps.

I'v just said : quality preset on ULTRA, all maxed.

    So when i see those GameGpu benchmarks....R9 290 : minimum fps 25 / average fps 34 @ 1920*1080...i say "bullsh*t".

It seems like there is something really wrong with the performance on GCN 1.0/1.1 GPU's versus GCN 1.2.

Have 20 fps sometimes. But meanwhile playing at 30 FPS. In closed areas it's 60.
16.5.2 driver! Running game from SSD.
Cool game but our driver is sht

    What!?? quality ... preset...UL...TRA, 1920*1080.

Why would you need a screenshot!? if the main quality preset is on ultra in doom, every other settings are also on ultra ( except those limited to high setting exemple : occlusion ).

And like Sean8102 said, if i set shadows to high...huge minimum / average fps boost ( and for no quality loss...there's no difference between ultra and high setting ).

I'm not having that bad FPS as long as I drop just shadows to high, but yeah I agree the driver is pretty poor for Doom. I know AMD has never been known for their excellent OpenGL drivers but damn! Fingers crossed the Vulkan update gets here sooner rather than later.

OpenGL games have historically always been pretty terrible on AMD cards. I remember my old GTX 480 performing far better in Rage than my 7970Ghz ED for example.

Hopefully Vulkan will rectify the dodgy performance on AMD cards for you guys, DOOM is a great game that should be enjoyed by all.

Bad dev is bad nothing more to it. From alpha to beta no fps drop for amd. From beta to final nice 50% drop it seems, except on 4k.

No point blaming amd on this one if the performance plummets that hard while nvidias performance goes up.
