Going from a 970 to a 1080, is it worth the upgrade?

I have the same card and plan too. Mainly because this 970 is struggling at 1440P in most games now (Can generally maintain ~60fps with lowering some settings, but would like to use my 144hz)

I`m pretty excited about the 1070, but I need real benchs to see if it worth the upgrade from a 970.
Although the 8gbvram is already tempting

Thats my exact situation, my 970 is definitely struggling at 1440p too, founders edition is gonna cost me about $1000.00 CAD :(

So the midrange Nvidia chips are getting more and more expensive :(

    680: $500
    980: $549
    1080: $599

And that founders edition is an absolute rip off!
I have a feeling the custom boards will be more close to $699 than $599
    We need more competition!

Will finally be upgrading from my 2 x 670 sli setup, but definitely going for the 1080 this time but single, maybe a year later i will get another for sli.

Looking forward to seeing reviews but i think regardless it is going to be excellent compared to my 670's

I got a question, my monitor has DVI-D connection and the 1080 DVI-DL , will it work?

Okay, didnt know he was that biased. Truth be told, I got this link as a recommendation. I don't follow him or anything.

    Hey, you're back? :)
I think the NDA lifts the 17th if I remember correctly. 10 days to raise the hype to unbearable levels until release.

I am expecting this to be 10 to max 20% faster then 980 ti when both 980 ti and 1080 are overclocked.

Might be an upgrade option still pondering, or just skip till big pascal / vega.

Welcome back! I have somewhat similar plans. I plan to upgrade my display to >60 Hz 1440p one in the near future but my GTX 970 isn't ideal for that. 4K isn't quite there yet but these new cards can easily handle 1440p.

I can't really stand PWM back flickering and motion artifacts any more and on top of that my display has some cross hatching and overdrive issues.

I just read that Micron started Mass Production of GDDR5X, that explains why the 1080 has it.

    Sooner than expected.

I was actually looking into a 1440p monitor and they are still 400-500$ for a decent one lol. I was in shock about the sticker price I think I'll have to wait for black fri ages from now.

I mean almost as much as a vid card or a 50 inch tv that's crazy.

Well at least compared to a TV, it does make sense imho ;)

Not with a vid card though. But contrary to what everybody says or thinks, people with anything above 1080p on their pc monitor are the minority. So yeah, tech's pricey, because it's still in early adopter phase, 1080p is still the standard. Those screens are dirt cheap these days.

Do you get any lag and bad sharpening on that TV with the PC?. And yeah I'm not about to spend 600$ on a vid card lol. I'm thinking they will announce a 1080ti at some point and it'll be in like 7 months to be availible.

AMD I would like to wait and see but I like the DSR and physics to much and I know physics is in a very small amount of games but hey when I play borderlands I like to see it lol.
