Hilbert's last line sums it up perfectly. Nothing more to say than this imho.

The last 5-6 years of development in the CPU market have been increasingly depressing :(

Who the hell updates their bios on a regular basis? Seriously, so many things could go wrong it that the sole reason to even consider an update is nasty bug (or a feature you desperately need). In other words, if it ain't broken don't touch it.

Alot of people. Me included. Never had a problem.
I even use UEFI Bios updater to update all the core modules myself.

I only update if something isn't working right, but then again, my mobo is already 3 years old, so not many updates :p

(damn, growth of cpu technology isn't that fast anymore, I used to be able to build a pc that was twice as fast as the one I built 3 years ago for the same amount of money. Now I have to spend twice as much my current cpu is worth and I'll probably won't even notice)

Every time a new BIOS comes out I update. On my current board I had serious issues with my EVO 850 SSD, constantly being disconnected. I tried everything, ranging from power cycling to secure erasing it. Nothing helped. Until a new BIOS was released, then everything worked like a charm and have so ever since.
No where in the BIOS release notes did it say anything about SSD / SATA / AHCI etc. So sometimes you get an unexpected bonus. Besides, if the new BIOS feels / behaves badly, you simply go back to the old one. I have never ever, had a BIOS flash go wrong. Besides, most modern motherboards employs a dual BIOS setup as a fail safe.

Most people, a lot of BIOS updates are for system stability, new hardware support, along with other useful things

And so long as your machine doesn't lose power during the update, it's no more complicated or dangerous than installing a few MB program inside of Windows

You don't update from DOS these days lol

I do if it's a major bios release, or something isn't working right on my computer and the next best thing to try is bios update.

    I do.
In fact, currently I'm on a beta BIOS and everything works just fine.

I'm sure the vast majority of the BIOS code for Skylake platforms has been copied over from Haswell/Broadwell, which are pretty stable at this point. There isn't enough of an architectural difference to need frequent BIOS updates, so I'd say if you have an i5 with a discrete GPU, don't bother updating and enjoy your hack!

Where are times of L12 bridging, now they are spending money for "Turbo", "Gaming" and so on marketing, we want free headroom!

and THIS is why ill never buy intel. ill gladly take a bite to the performance for amd any day.

also this is why you WANT competition to thrive.

That bite to performance is too drastic right now. AMD seriously under performs. I'd love to buy an AMD CPU again, but can't justify the hit.
