I was using detonator 51.75 and the performance was crappy. I was getting average 20 fps at 640x480 and during battle scenes i was getting something like 1 fps. Then I thought.. I'm gonna try
-timedemo with other detonator versions now here comes the funny part. It doesnt work with ANY OF THE OTHER DET VERSIONS, IT WORKS ONLY WITH 51.75 THAT WAS NOT EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE OUT.

    43.00, 43.03, 43.45, 44.03, 44.67, 44.90, 45.23

I tried all these versions and I could never finish the -timedemo. It allways crahed with exception fault.

Now with 51.75 it works perfectly. LOL this game is a joke. I cannot believe they didnt test it with previous detonators.

One more thing. The official reply from gear box saying something like (dont have the text handy) "for what halo is doing (and its doing a lot) the performace is expected and bla bla bla"

I have one thing to say.. good games are the ones that visually seems that they are doing a lot but actually they are not... HALO seems like a dated game that is doing nothing and u even dare to say "its doing a lot", its just the proof of how crappy gearbox coders are.

Try the new 1.01 patch. It fixed those problems for me.

Make sure you run it under Windows95 compatibility so you wont get that error message when you start up Halo.

I run under 1024x768 resolution and get like 40 fps. And my comp specs are close to yours :)

I get that error message on the second demo from -timedemo. And with 44.67 I get that message on the third demo, its not when launching the game.

edit: anyways 51.75 is working so still they missed something really big there.

does halo have these issues only with FX cards cause on my system it works perfectly. I get high fps and the game runs very smooth. I passed the whole game last night and I had a lot of fun playing it. I uninstalled it after wards. I am concentrated at freedom fighters. It is an awesome game and to me much better than halo.

For FX users... just remember to use Pixel Shader 1.4 instead of 2.0...
in your Halo shortcut, type in -use14 after it and it'll run a whole lot smoother :)

runs ok for me using PS2.0 here is my timedemo results :-

    Below 60fps= 96% (time) 91% (frames)
    Memory used Max=161MB, Min=129MB, Ave=149MB

settings in game were maxed out.

Just as a comparison here is the time demo using PS1.4

    Date / Time: 10/1/2003 2:50:48 PM (10200890ms)
    2200MHz, 1024MB, 256M nVidia GeForceFX 5900 Ultra (DeviceID=0x0330) Driver=6.14.10.5175 Shader=1.4
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe -console -vidmode 1024,768,100 -use14 -timedemo (Version=1.0.1.580)
    Frames=4700
    Total Time=124.26s
    Average frame rate=37.82fps
    Below 5fps= 2% (time) 0% (frames) (3.715s spent in 7 frames)
    Below 10fps= 4% (time) 0% (frames)
    Below 15fps= 4% (time) 0% (frames)
    Below 20fps= 5% (time) 0% (frames)
    Below 25fps= 10% (time) 4% (frames)
    Below 30fps= 32% (time) 19% (frames)
    Below 40fps= 55% (time) 41% (frames)
    Below 50fps= 81% (time) 71% (frames)
    Below 60fps= 96% (time) 92% (frames)
    Memory used Max=162MB, Min=129MB, Ave=149MB

not much of an improvement over PS2.0 only 5fps.

Ive said this before-but in case someone didnt know-ps2.0 on FX cards is really ps1.4 *if* your using the 51.75 betas....the jump in performance with these betas is partly due to the emulation of ps1.4 making the game believe it's ps2.0. And that's straight from nvidia.

not that i dont believe you, but can you give some proof that the 51.75s are still using ps2.0 and just emulating ps2.0 please. (other thatn jsut saying "that's straight from nVidia")

With PS1.4 I get over 60 fps at almost all times ,at 1024x768x32 with specular effects off using 45.23s ,imo I havent noticed any difference with ps2.0 at all ,in fact with 1.4 the game looks awesome ,the water effects especially, you could tell a mile away that Halo is a DX9.0 game .
