    Hi!

I am looking for cheapest (probably Rx 300 series or FirePro) card that supports AMD Eyefinity on 3+ 4K monitors. I will not be using it for gaming, only for software development and very occasionally for watching movies. My main OS is Ubuntu Linux.

You can go for an r7 240 or an old HD 6570(4k displayport only).

uhm.. are you just advising him to use 4k 30hz^^?

afaik amd is, even with the fury, not supporting hdmi 2.0.
so you will need a card with 3 displayports.

Why would I need a card with three display ports with EyeFinity? I have read that if your monitor supports native DP, then you can feed up to 6 monitors from single output on graphic card via hub. Isn't that correct? Now would R7 240 be powerful enough to feed three 4K displays?

    oh rly?
    thats interesting.

but if this is working, why is amd putting 3 displayports on the fury?

Don't ask me :), but what I have read is that your output needs to be DP 1.2 version to enable MST. Now it would be nice to here someone with this low range R7 240 how it holds up with that many 4K monitors and how good is support on Ubuntu.

3 DP cables is a lot cheaper than a hub

But based on this table from Wikipedia the 6000 series only supports 2–6x 2560×1600, so there is no way I would be able to run 3+ 4K displays. This means that only 7000 series are good enough, right?

    r7 240 is a rebranded HD7650.

You'll want a Firepro, which one depends on your budget. The Firepros all come with multiple DP ports now, usually with 4. There's the W7000 for everything from media dev to entry compute.

Hmmm, Firepro with multiple outputs seems more reasonable, since I have read about limitations of DP 1.2, where it is impossible to find a hub that would enable more than two 4K displays. For example this hub clearly states this limitations.

Software development + movies, nothing more needed. That's the cheapest way :nerd:
