Orange in the first pic, gold in the second pic - that's how it looks on my Spyder4Pro calibrated screen.

This is not really such a new way of introducing the late products of the cycle / generation... so no big surprise here ;)

It is annoying but it's just the way of things.

The company only has limited resources and so has to first focus on producing the "mainstream", price competitive designs which make all the money at release time.

It wouldn't be good business to only release the expensive 980ti Lightning on launch day with the normal Gaming Edition coming months later, by then everyone has bought Gigabyte/EVGA etc.

    Not.

It would be a rather orangy coppery opportunity though. :p

Very weird they don't want to put their best foot forward, first. Be good to know truly why this is done. The price difference is not much... so not entirely sure this is the reason.

I'm with you, I would definitely go for top of the range stuff (if it was actually effective) if it was available. I think the majority of people are looking for value though.

It wasn't too long ago that reference designs were the only thing available at launch. Vendors seem to be getting a lot better at releasing custom designs from the word go nowadays so maybe things will get even better in the future.
