MSI R9270 Safe temps?

Good day kind Guru's

Not too long ago I posted concenring my I5 temps here:
I5 4690K temps okay?

Now I am facing my GPU (MSI R9270 2gb OC edition Twin Frozr) temps settings:
Power limit: +20%
Core clock: 1050mhz
Memory clock: 1500mhz
Basically the sliders to max. :thumbup:

Idle temperatures are:
31-35 Idle
68-74 load
The card cools down from 74 degrees to 54 then to 35 rather fast within minuttes.

I am worried about running my GPU at this temp for long periods, as it runs 71-74 during Dota 2 and CS GO which on any given day I can play 4-7 hours.

You sure I am reading forum posts saying 70 degrees is a bit too hot for a modern GPU.:frown:

 

Most stock cooler GPUS readily run up to 85. I allow my CPU to max out at 80 at my stupid overclock. The silicon is designed for those kind of temperatures. You really only need to worry 90+

 

So then 75 the highest I have seen is okay? I guess I just want my parts to last but the OC helps so much so it is hard not to OC but then also want it to last :bang:

 

You are completely fine dude. Even cooler NVIDIA cards get higher temps than that when worked 100%.

 

Well didnt AMD say there R9's can go as high as 95c? Your not even out of the ball park yet..reach 96c come back and talk

 

Yup, my R9 290 used to sit at 94c constantly during gaming, still does according to my nephew who owns it now, been that way for years now, still runs great

They won't go any higher, they throttle down first

 

fine temps. like maxblade said, the reference 290x can get upto 95c and then throttle itself xD

 

75 degrees should be OK. 270 and 280 should be OK bellow 80 degrees Celsius. Reference 290 are good up until 95 degrees only because they are designed with those temperatures in mind (higher rated components).

 

280's afaik do well until 91 degrees.

I think it throttles like 10-30 mhz after the 85 mark.

 

and then you have the R9-285 which throttles up and down no mater what temps it's running it all depends on the load on the GPU

 

Thank you for all the replies, it has been cold here room ambient temp around 12-18 degrees and it has sat between 68-71 however I am getting more coil whine (annoying).
I adjusted the fan to 35% at 50-85 degrees and it is quieter(besides the noisy coil whine) SO I am happy then if these temps are fine for gaming

 

There are methods of getting rid of the coil whine, and most of them involve letting the card work hard for a long period of time (by being in an app/game that induces coil whine, like the Total War Rome 2 main menu for example), and that will allow your card to "settle" later.

 

use MSI Afterburner to create a custom fan profile.

These temps are fine as they are but if you don't mind a slightly louder system then let the fan spin up sooner by creating a custom fan curve in MSI AB.

If your playing CSGO then you should be using headphones so they louder noise shouldn't be a problem for you.

 

His problem is not the fan noise, but coil whine, which is completely different.

It's OK
Safe for Radeon GCN:
65-85deg. cels.
Safe for AMD CPUs
Old PhenomII Max to 58-60deg.
New FX max to 65deg.

My XFX go to MAX (with OC to 1060/1650 1.2v +8% POW) 65deg.cels in Summer Hot days !
Normally i play 1050/1550 1.175v +8% POW and it's stays below 60deg.
PhenomII barely Hit 45deg. ;-) but it's a Nepton 280L on IT (OC to 4.3GHz but for Games i'm using 3.86GHz or 4GHz it's enough even for AC:unity and WatchDogs :banana: )
