Im still waiting for Fury (X) to be avaiable where I live but the rest of the build will look like this:

Case: Thermaltake Core V71

PS: Corsair RM750

MB: Asus X99-A/USB 3.1

CPU: i7 5820K

Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H110i GT

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 DDR4-2400Mhz, 15-15-15-35-2N@1.20V XMP

HD1: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB

HD2: WD 1TB

Soundcard: Soundblaster Z

Any first day advice?

Almost identical rig to mine. Will also add Fury X.

You should get an OC of 4.3/4.4 easy on the CPU. I've got my mem @ 3000 with strap at 125.

Im in time to change RAM modules so... which speed should I aim for? 2400, 2666...? And last but not least, any guide I could read about OC'ing Haswell-E?

My last OC'ed rig was a Q6600 and Im completely lost with those straps, bclk... :infinity:

 

I bought 2133mhz modules and they are stable at 3000.
The newer bios build did help.

Regarding memory, it is hard to say. It depends if there is a big price difference between the various frequency in your country.
Memory OC seems to be pretty easy on that platform but as always when talking about OC, nothing is guaranteed.

Hey guys, prob building a rig around a 5820k soon.

Probably gonna pair this with 32GB G.Skill Ripjaws, 2800MHz CL16 or
2400MHz CL15.

I'm really struggling to decide on a board though.

Price wise, my choices are:

Asus X99A USB3.1
Asus X99A
MSI X99A SLI Plus
MSI X99A MPOWER
ASRock X99 Extreme4

I'm sorta leaning towards the Asus X99A USB3.1 - I can't find reviews on the MSI X99A Sli Plus, the X99 Mpower seemed to have some issues (may just be early BIOS probs)

Anyway, would be nice to know what people's experiences are!

I have the X99A vanilla and no issues. OC's well.
Maybe go for the X99A USB3.1

 

A lot of people have gone with the X99A, and I haven't heard or read about major problems with the special board.

Oh boy... sorry to read you've had so much trouble even after getting replacement hardware! Still waiting for something to happen, or have you been able to sort it out yet?

 

So many X99 users here..Do yall gonna guys upgrade to Broadwell E if it comes out? Or skip it and wait for Skylake E?..

 

Think i'll wait. My system is powerful enough as is. I always say that but tend to upgrade way to often

 

Kabilake-E will be the first to be interesting. Broadwell is quite a mediocre thing, so will be the E chips, and Skylake honestly doesn't excite me either. I think I'll be fine for another three to five years easily.

Don't want to get another Malaysian chip anytime soon...

 

What exactly is it you think will be interesting about Kaby Lake? No new Architecture or a die shrink with this one as far as I'm aware!?

Skylake is probably the most interesting CPU/Platform to come out since Sandybridge. Personally I don't think Kaby is going to offer much if anything more than Skylake currently does. Perhaps a slight clock frequency bump, perhaps more USB 3.1 Gen 2 connectivity, other than that....

If anything it gives AMD chance to gain back some ground with Zen!

 

Probably you're right, Cannon Lake will be the interesting thing, I mistook it.

But... I certainly won't be upgrading as I just bought my Haswell-E platform, that's why I won't go back down to buy a new mainboard, a new CPU, and a new waterblock just to switch on to Skylake-E for a few percent of performance gain... the only thing probably really improved is overclockability, and I'm waiting to see if Kaby Lake is taking this further, for better overclocks and / or less power consumption while doing so. Besides that, no features I don't already have in Haswell-E.

 

No. I'm still trying to return the faulty crap to the shop . I have never came across a shop that is so slow to respond to emails...a week at a time for a reply to my queries :bang:

 

Hahaha..Reminds me when I was using a lemon 5930K Malaysian...Atleast yours can do 4.5ghz..Whats your vcore on that?
