So, this will do the same thing as waiting for the upgrade through WU? It will still keep your files and programs intact?

Yup, so long as you run an upgrade, not a clean install

The tool worked flawlessly. Haven't encountered any problems yet. Running CCC 15.7.1. Have to play some more with W10, though. But first impression is good. Got rid of the silly tiles and made sure no data will be send back to MS.

The tool worked fine on my 3 machines.
    Laptop was fine (Intel/AMD graphics).
    HTPC was fine (Intel graphics).
Main gaming/office rig had issues with the graphics driver. It is the only one with an nVidia card. All is fine now that I reinstalled the drivers.

Worked on my main machine without an issue. Just had to update my bitDefender.

Now this is better than waiting for hours for Microsoft to do the job, i will try this thin after work, for no reason my windows 8.1 hasn't upgraded itself

I just noticed it got this folder called "$Windows.~BT" on my C Drive, and it's eating up 5GB.

It seems to be related to Windows 10.

    Can i safely trashcan this?

    EDIT:

Managed to remove it via Disk Cleanup :)

That folder contains the installation/setup files for Win 10. If you installed 10, then should be OK to delete.

I tried this on my zenbook UX31 a day ago, was fine. Only glitch I had was the trackpad gestures stopped working, was a bit of a headache getting it working again. The rest of the Asus software continued to function, instant on etc.

Very smooth installation compared to previous experiences with laptops.

Havn't installed Win 10 and don't want to either untill i decide to do so. Which is somewhere in 2016 when the new NVIDIA GPUs come out.

Apart from that, i also prefer a clean install of Windows over an Upgrade.

I agree, since I had another SSD around, decided to try a fresh Windows 10 Pro installation. Im liking it so far. Very fast installation, though booting off a usb ssd is gonna be quick. No problems so far. I may not go back to Windows 7.

Gaming wise isnt better or worse than windows 7. I deleted cortana, hasnt messed with system stability. I dont need windows search anyway. Disabled auto updates. you disable the metro store and xbox app.

The upgrade process is necessary to to avail of the free upgrade from Win 7/8. You dont have to keep the upgrade after its activated, you can format and do a clean install after that and will remain activated (based on hardware IDs used in initial activation). The free upgrade offer is only for 1 year, and after that you have to pay for 10.
