Long story short, pump died on my Kuhler 920 while moving over to new case (dunno how it happened, sounds like a fridge compressor now). Needless to say no more AIO water coolers for me. Looking at ordering Noctua NH-D14 (NH-D15 doesn't support 1366) from Amazon and having it here Tuesday. Will that fit well enough in a 780T? Also is there a better one than that? Wanting to stay around the $100 mark. This is also going on an EVGA 132-BL-E758 with Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer RAM. EDIT: Looks like D15 will work with an adapter so that's main option again. Let me know if there's better. Thanks, -ELS
I switched from an H100i to a D15 and never been happier. Email Noctura and they will send you an adapter for 1366 sockets for free.
That's what I'm doing I think. The socket was $8. I think I can pay that to have it earlier. You think it will all fit well?
I don't see why it wouldn't, your case isn't exactly small. Check the dimensions to be sure though, you'll find exact sizes on the manufacturer websites. I've been an advocate of high end air or custom water for a long time, I'm not at all fond of AIO loops.
I was until a few hours ago. I used to praise my 920 in my LanBoy. But now I'm scared to even custom loop it.
With a custom loop you can guarantee the quality of the components and the fitting. It's not something you should do if you're not comfortable, and it does take a level of technical know-how to get right. But it's absolutely worth doing, there's plenty of guides to read up on, as well as people willing to give advice. I simply don't like the nature of an AIO loop, for them to genuinely out perform high end air you're starting to spend the sort of money that could build a custom loop.
NH-D15 will be here today. Do you think I'll be able to keep my same OC on my x5670? (Just up to 4GHz). Or should I take it back down and re OC to watch temps? I have a feeling my 920 was going out for a while and temps never were above ~45C. Also, if D15 doesn't fit, have a Cryorig R1 Universal on order as well
Man you were right on. This thing is a beast. It's huge! The transfer from the LanBoy Air to the new 780T is complete (with new cooler...though I had to take my NorthBridge fan cooler off to get the CPU cooler on, then was able to squeeze it back on...may have bent a few fins while doing so, but nothing too bad). Temps are amazing (<50C on max Intel Burn Test while also downloading on Steam and Spotify going). I have attached pics of the final new product. Couldn't be happier and thank you all for your input!
