At least they found some extra performance and let's see what prices do once their actual high end competitors arrive. Prices have only gone up here since the euro took a plunge vs the dollar.

That's a lame oc. Wonder if that was a cherry picked sample? 100Mhz on the core is pretty crappy imo. Considering how high maxwell can go on air.

This is rather disappointing as I was hoping to upgrade my current GPU. It feels underpowered since I switched from 1080p to 1440p. The Witcher 3, GTA 5, Shadows of Mordor....they're stressing my card and my money is burning a hole in my pocket.
The 980ti is a bit on the expensive side in the Netherlands, but it seems so good for my resolution.
Sigh...I'll try to wait for the Fury X reviews. 4GB VRAM should suffice for 1440p.

No problem I didn't really fully flesh out my point.

You guys can't be serious about being surprised. Don't you read stuff? This was obvious for a while now.

I'm sorry but i fail to see how this is such a terrible product. You fanboys need to open your eyes and learn to read. This card trades blows with the gtx 980 which sells for 509 at newegg for the msi version. This is suppose to be about 75-100 dollars cheaper.

Also you keep talking about power like it is a big deal.
Sorry I referenced the 980ti not the 980

Also i have had 0 issues with drivers for my amd card. Now i have had issues with sli and drivers so everyone thinking nvidia is perfect get over it. NEITHER ARE PERFECT.

Now why do you guys complain about drivers on day 1 for a new game when half the time the game is broken for the first month anyways.

Please people grow up the state of this world is just pathetic with all your fanboyism.

I could've found that extra performance myself, give me 5 minutes with a 290x in afterburner and I'll return you a card that will perform better than the 390x.

What bugs me is this. People somehow forgot how good a card the 290/290x actually is. I've been recommending both 290 and 290x recently to people. Asus DCUII 290x for £200 is an absolute bargain and even I would consider it against a 970. 290 have also been cheap for ages. So really, 290 and 290x are great value for money.

Problem is, this 390x is priced far too high for what it is. Some have said that actually the 290/290x are suddenly a better option to go for. Not really, they have been a really good option for months, it's not just now.

What sucks is that this 390x release won't force the 290x price down even further, even if by £20. At £180 a 290x would be a really strong contender and we'd see it in many rigs.

Should have seen this crap coming you know with the 7970Ghz and all. Revise reference clocks and call it a new card.

    The irony.

The card is near identical to the 290X other than the fact it has more VRAM, which is useless to 90% of users anyway. The 290X will perform just as well and can be had for £100-150 less than the 390X. They're literally competing against themselves with the same product.

yep, 280x, 280, 270 etc. I didn't expect these "enhancements" to make the 390x any faster than the 290x. Some people were hopeful though, not sure what they were basing their hopes on.

near identical? or dare I say identical but with a higher clock speed?

Darkest I agree with you the 290 and 290x are the same as this but this is not a bad price to performance compared to nvidia. Is what I was getting at. I would still take the 290 or 290x over this because it is a better buy until they are gone.

I think that the extra performance is a good thing because 290X based cards that I have seen reviews on didn't reach 1200 on the core, however I have seen 1 user who is a member of this forum who has CFX 290Xs @1200mhz core I do not remember the memory OC he has. I have seen only 1 card that got over 6000mhz mem is the Vapor X version of the 290X 4GB card @6300.

    Pretty much.

Between these over priced refreshes and the HDMI 1.4a/DVI-D removal from their higher end cards, the only product I'm genuinely interested in anymore is the Nano. I feel like they've made a bunch of bad decisions regarding the 300 series, and it's a crying shame because I desperately want to see them pull back market share.

That's fair enough, but surely you understand that this is a bad move by AMD? It's not so much the price of the competition, it's the skewed decisions regarding their updated hardware and pricing. Even factoring in Nvidia, many people would pick up a 970 over a 390X.

Nice to see some sense in this thread. Yeah, I agree with you 100%, the 390x just makes the 290x look like the second coming of Jesus.

The problem is, the 290's will slowly become unavailable and people will have no choice but to get the 390X if they're looking at that performance segment for AMD. By then we might have seen prices come down, but they'll need to drop a hell of a lot to entertain the same level of value.

I do but look at the stupid fanboys on this site that can't even read the review. I used to work sales at a retail place and let me tell you those customers are dumber than these fanboys. They thinker oh it has 8 gigs of memory it must be the best way so from that point what and did was smart. Plus you have people that just want the newest even if it is the same thing.

You have to grow a layer of really thick skin to survive the internet. People will post nonsense and people will troll you 24/7 if you bite.

Just relax and ignore the trololols. Always make sure you have a backup for your claim and you can't loose. Simples :)
