hello , i would like to make it quick.

my pc is quite old now , bought and set on 2010 ,june 25.

    cpu: Amd Phenom II x6 1090T BE @ 4ghz ( condition good)
    mobo: msi 890fxa-gd70 (good)
    ram: Corsai dominator 2x2gb 1600mhz + kingston hyper x 4x2gb 1600mhz ( dual channel. ( condition good)

PSU: CM GX750 ( makes buzz noise , maybe dying)

gpu: EVGA 480gtx ( suddenly stopped working when nvidia drivers r installed , without driver works but low resolution , useless )

    thats all to be considered.

Q.1 i dont know if its my gpu dead or my psu dying which made my 480gtx to perform like this, maybe PSU unable to deliver the LOAD to my gpu. At bios +12v and all looks good to me.

Q.2 keep the 1090t @4ghz and get a 970gtx and change the PSU to new 600w. will it bottleneck?

    Q.3 if bottleneak happens,

    i. shall i switch to 4690k with z97 ?
ii. wait for broadwell 5675c with z97/successor?
iii. wait for skylake with its new mobo?
    iv. wait for amd ZEN.

my sole task is gaming , i want my cpu n gpu to deliver as much fps as possible.

Q4. im confident with 4690k but the broadwell is around the corner with downgraded 4mb Lcache 3 , but with DX12 and iris pro igpu will that be any benifit?

not sure about ZEN , plus 2016 is far away and im from india.

Q5. if 970gtx bottlnecks then is 960gtx any better, consider im moving from a 480gtx which when OC'd gives 4-5 fps more.

i want nvidia as im comfortable with its features n settings.

i have more questions , but pleas try and solve these first.

going from AMD to Intel you will see a nice jump in performance.
I went from FX8350 to i7 4790K and I am really pleased nice performance jump in games. What ever CPU you decide on make sure it has unlocked multiplier to enable overclocking.

As for waiting depends how much you want a new PC there is always new hardware around the corner.
I cant imagine Intel will give a huge performance increase with there new CPUs as they have no competition at the moment.

As for a CPU DX12 ready who cares if you game you use either NVidia or AMD GPU.

get the GTX970 as you will upgrade you CPU at some stage GTX960 is a very poor GPU

    i5 + GTX970 = awesome gaming

    >Is dead ... i have a some GPUs with similar problems. That PSU is a bit bad (check the review of jhonny guru) don't output the power that say in the box but it have a decent ripple supression so i don't think the PSU kill your graphics card.
Check the voltage with a multimeter in load. if the 12V drop a lot like 12.20 to 11.60v maybe have some bad cap or thing is wrong

Q.2 keep the 1090t @4ghz and get a 970gtx and change the PSU to new 600w. will it bottleneck?

    >Mmmmm yeah, but depends on the game.

    Q.3 if bottleneak happens,

    i. shall i switch to 4690k with z97 ?

Option I. If u don't concert about new technologies, low tdp ect. Get the 4690k because in my opinion the performance improvement with the new CPU will be minimal like 5-10%

my sole task is gaming , i want my cpu n gpu to deliver as much fps as possible.

Q4. im confident with 4690k but the broadwell is around the corner with downgraded 4mb Lcache 3 , but with DX12 and iris pro igpu will that be any benifit?

No especially if u will use a dedicated GPU

not sure about ZEN , plus 2016 is far away and im from india.

Q5. if 970gtx bottlnecks then is 960gtx any better, consider im moving from a 480gtx which when OC'd gives 4-5 fps more.

    >Stay with the 970GTX even if u have a bit of bottleneck you'll have better performance than downgrading to a 960. Maybe in online scenarios or in really CPU intesive game u will have some FPS drops or lower performance. But u still can playing any game at >60 FPS with high video settings
Check this russian web have some really good game benchmarks http://gamegpu.ru/

    can you tell me how much will my 1090t @ 4ghz OC'd bottleneck a 970gtx ?

thank you for the lovely reply

"Check the voltage with a multimeter in load. if the 12V drop a lot like 12.20 to 11.60v maybe have some bad cap or thing is wrong"

speccy reading says my mobo +12 v is having mostly on load is 12.144 v , sometimes 12.056v and very rarely 11.968 v and thats all

    +5V 4.919 V

    +3.3V 3.248 V

right now i can only afford a graphics card ,what to do , since my gpu is dead and im running my old 8600gt , so should i spend on 970gtx or spend on the cpu n mobo ?

If the sensor of the motherboard don't lie, that regulation is pretty good so i don't think the PSU has a faulty capacitor.

If i were you, I would buy the 970 first and then the upgrade the whole platform, at least u can play games really good with that rig. But i u choose upgrade the platform first, the haswell IGP is pretty decent. u can play modern games at 720p - 30>FPS

Rather a wide sweeping general term is 'modern games.'

Jajajaajaj ... a more accurate term would be "last and current gen games".
I tried GTA V with the Haswell onboard (with overclocked memory and IGP) and runs pretty decent in 720p @ low settings

    if i go get a 970gtx and run it along with 1090t OC'd to 4ghz , how much bottleneck / less performace % can i expect when compared to 1. fx8530 2. 4670k

I really hard estimate a percentage because it depends of the game. But in my opinion (maybe i'm wrong) your CPU at 4Ghz will be close to a FX8350

    A few examples

i know my cpu will bottleneck 970gtx , will make it perform like 960gtx or 280x , lets see at the end of this year hope i get to upgrade my cpu n mobo

I think your bottleneck will be pretty severe, get the 970 if you are upgrading to intel in the near future. If not, I would not recommend it at all.

Getting a simple H97 board with an i5 4460 would be more than enough to push even 980. I would probably recommend you do that first.

Like TK said, PII will bottleneck 970 pretty bad.

i understand , thank you everyone for your feedback.

due to limited fund the only options i have left with are the following , please have a final view.

    1. 1090t 6 cores @4ghz with Asus 960gtx strix OC/ Gigabyte G1 960gtx.

    2. 1090t 4 cores @4.1 / 4.2 ghz with Asus 960gtx strix OC/ Gigabyte G1 960gtx.

since i am a nvidia fan and love the features like physx , shadowplay , experience , i would keep nvidia, in india 280x is way higher priced then 960gtx.

Since i can only change my graphics card , to play gta 5 / witcher 3 i have the following choices.

    1. 960gtx 2 gb
    2. 960gtx 4gb
    3. 770gtx is not available
    4. 970gtx is available but 3.5gb* +0.5 gb problem + bottleneck.

my last and important question , will 960gtx going to be bottlenecked ??????

In that case its better to just get 970. Even if bottlenecked it will deliver higher fps than 960. Later this year when you finally change your MB/CPU you will have worthwhile card that can still keep up.

To be honest 960 isnt worth it, skip it in a big jump.

About the 3.5Gb of the 970, is not a really a problem, even at 4K still having a good performance. Maybe if u mod a game and put some ultra e-penis textures will have some issues but in normal situations don't affects the performance.
