Are you planning on overclocking the card? Running it on air (or are you looking for a card to put into a loop?)

Hate to disappoint you, but if youre running a gtx 980 in 2020, youll likely be forced to use the lowest settings, if you want decent fps.

No gpu is really 5+ years future proof.

The Asus gold edition is the fastest 980 out of the box but is also one of the most expensive.

The thing to know is that any non-reference cooled 980 from MSI, EVGA etc will be capable of the same speeds as the ASUS by simply using MSI afterburner to overclock the card.

So with the ASUS you are paying over the odds but if money isn't an issue, have you considered TitanX? I wouldn't recommend buying a TitanX but it is an option.

Do you care about budget? Titanx would be most future proof card atm but not best bang for bug.. I would def not go for asus gold edition if u dont overclock at all. Something like MSI gaming 4G or Gigabyte Windforce x3 has plenty enought cooling for 980. ASUS R9290X-DC2OC-4GD5 DirectCU II looks to be great for its money starting @~300e/$. 970 seems lack luster in many game benchmarks.

Good call. What's the MSI 980 priced at in your area ?

Also, what's your ram configuration ?

Get a reference card and throw a water cooler on it. These stock coolers hold GPU's back a lot...

Buy the cheapest reference card with the best warranty. Put a custom bios on it and oc it yourself.

Wait for the 390X or 980ti to launch and pick one up or go for a GTX 980 as the previous mentioned cards will force the price down a bit.

Why would you not over clock it? Lol. I don't get that. Its not dangerous, at all. There are so many safety features on these cards, these days.
