So far I seem to have a problem with headphones... the plastic that the mini screws come attached to always strips itself and bits of my headphones fall off. had some steelseries ice headphones... the plastics broke on the adjuster. i had some BD660's... after a year the plastic holding the adjust broke. currently using some skullcandly SLYR... plastic covering the adjust has broken at the screws. Judging from the reviews the one i'm looking at currently, Sennheiser GAME ZERO, has the exact same issues. anyone here know of a good headset that isn't plagued by that kind of problem?
well, it seems like that area seems to simply be a weak link in all headphones. My only option seems to be preventative measure. and from other websites the game zero is the best choice overall.
Buy a normal pair of headphones and attach a mod mic (or other mic, if you are feeling adventurous). Popular gaming headsets are the Audio Technica ATH-AD700: bass shy, but are supposed to have really good positional accuracy for FPS's. or the Beyerdynamic DT-770/880/990 lineup. As far as I'm aware- it's bass heavy/neutral/highs heavy respectively. http://www.modmic.com/ Looks like the ATH-AD700's may have been discontinued? some great ideas guys but forgot to mention i can't do open ear. had some BD's... bad experience with the customer crevice rep when they sent me the wrong ones and i think a driver cracked already too.

I like my Audio Technica ATH-A900X closed headphones. There is the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250-Ohm. Or just get the Sennheiser G4ME ZERO. Hopefully you disabled the motherboard's on-board audio, in the BIO, before you installed the Essence STX and the Asus software? Might deleting the Asus software and try the Unified Xonar Drivers. http://maxedtech.com/asus-xonar-unified-drivers/ Getting two LME49720 op-amps, for the I/V slot on the STX, might improve audio quality.
