Oh I am sure Nvidia hitting 5 years high is paying a special attention to people with $150 cards being disappointed with 600mm2 of silicon marvel. Spoiler
Yeah and why even call it a Titan. What's so Titan about, it has extra ram that won't even get saturated. Weird business NVidia running lately.
I'll be looking for a new card come this fall to upgrade too but I have to say I'm rather confused as to why they are getting away from dual DVI outputs? I mean not all of my monitors have HDMI in but I can only assume its to save space and money in the card itself.
Yeah that's true. Although the only thing they took away is DP. Still... whats left is not the compute powerhouse anymore. That we all thought Titan represents. Which brings us to WHY? And its a combination of reasons: 1) Being stuck at 28nm, ie not having enough area to expand and having to cut FP64 in order to accommodate more FP32. Having fast DP would make GM200 jack of all trades master of none. Not enough area, nevermind TDP 2)Titan sold so well that they are hooked. They simply have to have it. And it seems that gamers are #1 customers regardless of CUDA talking points. 3) Why $1000 despite being compute limited. AMD missing in action... obviously.
So... Titan X power consumption 254 W, recommended power supply 600-650W. 780 Ti power consumption 262 W, recommended power supply... 550W. R9 290X, 289W, power supply, 550-600W. Uses less power, needs bigger power supply. Logic. Your maths is stronk. =))
It is way it is, maxwell has power saving features which turn off parts when they are not needed, this allows them to draw more amps as they work, but in the end power draw averages. AMD came with same solution, they have it on efficiency slides for 3 years, but only upcomming GPUs/APUs will have it. (likely one of the reasons why carrizo is not in FM2+, as some boards would not withstand Voltage/Current spiking) Anyway, someone who buys Titan, should have no problem to buy decent PSU.
Nice review Hilbert. Getting back to facts, TitanX is a blast of card no matter how you look at it...but the price. I'll hold up for the moment and see what AMD will deliver. If AMD end up @ 700 EUR (or below) and similar or slighly better perfromance I do not see this TitanX selling. You really need to be a very VERY BIG nvidia fan to waste over 1000 EUR on this one.
Good review. Good card as well. But I would never buy something like this. I'd rather stay with my 970 for a while and get the next....whatever-70 that comes out.
Nope I will going to use ek for that because it matches my monoblock. I prefer a custom block anyhow.
I was just wondering, because those EVGA cards wear an EK block, but I'm not sure if it's something special besides that EVGA logo.
doubt that, nvidia owns 75% of the market they share with AMD. The 390x will be faster and 8GB HBM will be even faster also the 8GB HBM version will be cheaper then the Titan X, still they won't lower the price on the Titan, they don't have too. But i think they made a mistake with this card named as titan because they had to keep the titan price tag. I would have named it 980TI and sold it for 800$ people would have bought it. Also the 12gb memory is absurd, even if you push 4k with full MSAA the memory won't be used at 100%, also this card is not capable of 4k at 60fps, so why put 12GB?!? just to keep it expensive and take your eyes. I recommend waiting for the 390x and then decide what to get.
It's not really DOA when the 390 is no where to be seen. There's a premium price but currently its performance is pretty awesome.
