Stunning shots Bball! I'm doing a portrait shoot coming sunday. Hoping I'm getting some nice results.

I've been fooling around with lightroom settings to make pictures look vintage. I like the effect although I'm a complete n00b to this. Dunno if there are any guidelines...

thanks guys! it really does continue to impress, all shots were taken wide open at 600mm as well, very croppable files with this new sigma

and auto focus has been fantastic, very very accurate, OS also solid enough, the picture of the male superb fairy wren was at 1/125 shutter speed!

hey Mike all hand held! i find 'pods too cumbersome therefore never use them on walks (unless i had landscape in mind haha)...different story if i was camping in a hide or something i suppose, was actually out there for 3 hours in the sun...neck's burnt and hands started to spasm a little towards the end lol, but no the lens is definitely very hand holdable and i'm not a big guy or anything

nice effort! i am no expert but i might point out a few things i see tho, i think pic #1 maybe crop out the window more, the overblown windows a bit distracting to me, almost drawing attention away from the model's face, pic #2 the little spot of light on the shadow side of the face a lil distracting for me as well, maybe a reflector next time? can try to go for rembrandt lighting

but i think you're better wait for opinions from like Thug and Chief who shoots portraiture more tho lol :p

    MrDre - really nice images.

I would say the B & W shot is my favourite.

While I like the use of the window for the photo, I do have to wonder if it's distracting though. Your photo would be of the model and the inclusion of the window, as wonderful an element as it is, distracts from the model. Would be interesting to see what it would look like if you put in a portrait crop and take out that window all together.

Maybe it's because I just went to a seminar just 2 nights ago on portraiture but one of the key take aways was that unless other elements add to the "story" of the photo, don't include it.

Of course - opinions and arseholes always applies. I am no expert.

Thanks alot so far bball and druid! All comments are very welcome as I really want to improve my skills! I think I'll better create a new topic on this subject. So we dont clutter up this place with that kind of discussion so much.

MrDre, only one and three showing on mine, No. 2 is missing.

Lighting Is not too bad, but a little concerned about the posing.

The first one she looks like she is just slouched on a chair, with her hair all over the place and possibly mid speech or a little nervous looking (judging by her eyes).

The third one is the best, but be careful of 'up nose' shots as they don't look too flattering. I think you have just gotten away with it on this one though. Not too sure what her hands are doing as they just seem to be springing up from the bottom and don't really add anything.

Over all, I like them though.
