Yeah, I got the Strix cards because I was toying with the thought of hardmodding them, but ultimately I have to say I think I'll chicken out. The last time I've soldered anything is about 18 years past when I was in middle school, and I don't want to brick cards for €1000...

Sounds very odd. Has to do with thermals I guess...

Nice ones, dim the light and put on some music for your two friends... happy overclocking there
And I thought I was 'lucky' to get two Strix cards with a difference of only 4 in s/n :D

Count me into the Club, got my 980 Phantom yesterday, absolutely satisfied :D faster than my 780 Phantom, quiter and less power consuming, what more can i ask for?

No, I meant it as a response to 'what more can I ask for?'. Well, a second one of the 980 Phantom ;)

Sorry for late reply been busy, its in the overclock.net 980 somewhere.
I think I remember the poster jpmboy talking about it. There was definitely somebody talking about it.

Those kingpins look good, wonder how much you can push those under water for 24/7 use. I would've expected atleast 1600mhz or more. Do they have increased power phases? Are i2c commands allowed? I doubt i2c commands are allowed as there will be too much change to the architecture. The datasheet should show this, dont know if there will be a separate datasheet for the kingpin though.

Nice cards though, dont come much better than the kingpin.

So I have been messing around with my Evga Ref SC 980 the pass week after I got my water block put on. Right now I am using afterbrner to OC the card. I have the voltage bar maxed out and the power target bar maxed as well. I have the card running at +150 core and +300 mem. Boost clocks for the core are 1550mhz and the mem runs at 3800mhz. I have yet to crash the card stressing it with 3dmark and playing games at those clocks. Temps never go over 43c remember the card is on water. My water block is a EK block which is the same block that Evga uses for its Evga hydro cooler. My question is, does the card become faster with higher core clocks or higher mem clocks, or a mix of both. My 660 GTX ran faster when I OCed the mem more then the core but I know some cards are faster with the core then the mem. After I get the max I can do I will post pics of everything just looking for info right now.

As i said the other day, those OC's can be stable on Benchmark for hours, will not be stable on real gaming

Open Dying light with last patch, go to the roof of "The tower", go to the yellow Crane, look to the sky more than the city, move around there for a few minutes, watch the game CTD with "-Device removed" error, no matter the driver you're using

I was stable on 180/600 for 1hour in heaven, without any drop on framerate, then i go to that place on Dying Light and.. Tada~~, full brown screen, then CTD

That game uses a lot of CPU, also GPU, its not very well optimised, thats why its good to see if the OC is stable or not, and i have to down my 180 to 96 to make it stable and do not crash, so....

And yes, i have a pagefile of 8GB, and i have 8GB ram

Just pulled the trigger on a GTX 980 SC yesterday from Newegg. I'm hoping that it will be that "sweet spot" among the 980 lineup. Considering it was only $3 more than the standard clocked version, I'd say that's probably EVGA's bang for the buck on Newegg. Now quite the FTW version, but I wasn't about to go $20 above the normal clocked version to do it.

This is the easiest card I have ever overclocked! something strange however, touch the memory and performance drops!

Could go a lot higher but can't see the advantage to start altering power and generating heat, presently with over boost it tops out at 1567 MHz

Anybody came across a handy 980 BIOS for the Strix version?

take a look at these http://www.overclock.net/t/1517316/...d-980-firmware-zosons-h2o-and-air-custom-bios that is linked in the OP as well. the H20 one is the only one I have been able to use to get my card sable that those speeds. Since your card is a Strix not a SC card you can just copy and paste the clock/voltage tables from the modded bios to your bios. That page has a guide on what to do.
