    the same for me on my 780 Ti 3 Gb ,I confirm the benchmark cakes it above 2.5 Gb !
    But no problem in games when they use more than 2.5Gb ;)

    and no problem in gpu-z , monitor shows 2974 Mb used when I run the test.
    possessor of 970 , when u run the benchmark , what value is shown beside memory used in gpu-z ?

    You should've downloaded my version, it comes with cudart64_65.dll in the package ;)

    I don't know. Once the program stops at "Press enter to continue" the memory is not used by the gpu anymore, but it isn't freed either.
    If you start playing a game while the memory is not freed yet, it will page the unused memory and evict it from onboard vRAM such that there is enough room for the more important game that actually uses the memory.
    I don't know what happens if say 3GB is still allocated and the remaining 1GB is free and a game needs 512MB or something. That would require further tests. With the program you could test this as well.

    Can you spot the difference between the two? Small but noticeable, prob not enough to draw any conclusions though.

    DWM may play a role in W7, but it can't be disabled in W8.
    So if all tests run in W8 result in no difference between GPU's, and all tests where there is a difference were run in W7, it will help support my OS/app theory voiced in the other thread..

    If none of the above is true my theory will go up in smoke..... Just a thought.

    Btw forget what I said to you the other day, I think you're right. ;)

    @VultureX run the 32MB on the GTX970?

    In the last chunk my L2 Bandwidth rose, and in the third last Memory chunk my bandwidth rose to normal.

    Also TJ ran the bench with a GTX780 in headless mode 128 a few pages back and got consistent bandwidth results for windows 8.1.

    Is it possible that it is intentional design to allow nVidia partnered developer studios the full 4Gb allocation e.g. COD, watchdogs, assassins creed.

    Or it could be an intentional design drawback to keep it from surpassing the GTX980 as well as to hold back the card for a refresh later with "more bandwidth". Since its something that has been going on since the release of the GPU.

    Does this mean nVidia has been committing fraud and selling fake 256bit 970s, only time will tell if it is a bug or the latter.

    i originally provided the gtx 980 results for the 3dcenter forum, dont worry about copyright, i just want to reveal what nvidia tries to hide.

    due to freedom of speech issues i decided to leave the 3dcenter forum. hoping people can deal with the truth here and maybe there are even more experts :)

    did anyone notice that all 970 are slower in nai's dram-bandwith than the 980?
    already mentioned it in german, but nobody seems to care:

    its often ~149gb/s(970) against ~178gb/s(980)
    13,4/16*178gb/s = 149gb/s

    the l2 performance seems to be 13,4/16 of the 980.

    performance should actually be 13/16 compared to
    13/16*2048 shader vs -> 1664
    13/16*256bit -> 208bit

    i also did a clock adjusted comparision and the l2 performance is also
    13,4/16 slower.

    this seems to indicate that there is no 256bit interface.
    but be careful mem-oc via afterburner does not apply to nai's benchmark.

    pardon me for my english ;)

    another interesting fact:
    results vary max 1gb/s and are perfectly recreatable on my 980. havent seen that on 970 so far.

    Turns out that this program, after finishing, evicts all the memory as soon as more is needed, as I've mentioned earlier, so you can't use it to force your card to use more memory.

    However if I (via another CUDA program) force the memory to remain used, some games show a serious performance drop if you try to force more than 3500MB of usage. Far Cry 4 becomes a stutter fest. Other games like WolfenStein and old DX9 games seem barely affected at all when the memory usage is over 4000MB.
    The funny thing is that in Far Cry 4 the card does whatever it can NOT to go over 3500MB. It's a huge stutter fest when it uses like 3600MB, but it does not try to allocate more.

    You have to run the test in IGP/headless mode or it will show worse results.

    No it does not mean they've been committing fraud, it is a physcial 256-bit bus and with 4gb vram. It just means theres a fault/bug in the hardware or driver that does not allow it to use the last 500mb or so of vram effectively. Me, I dont care. Perfectly happy with the way the card has performed so far and would buy it again in retrospect.. even if it was 3gb card.

    I did notice about the different bandwidth shown byt 970 and 980. That why I have been asking if anyone with GTX 780 and GTX 780 TI can run the bench to verify the issue.

    Either 650TI Boost and 660 as well.
