Flashing BIOS may not help, but for the love of GOD have you tried this?

Sometimes the stupidest of things fixes the biggest issues.

Anyone thinking this is an issue with the VRM on the GPUs overheating?

Only the Strix has VRM sensors, for the other GPUs you have to use an IR gun or something.

Strix got VRM sensors? Where can I see their temps?
As far as I know Afterburner only shows Core temp.

Do you tried to low GPU Clock (Core CLOCK ) to 700Mhz or less.. and test if the GPU USAGE goes to 99% in that stucked games ?

    u must try this!!!

ps. u have an old I5... first gen... Remove the OVERCLOCK. use it at STOCK and try.

I will test GRID Autosport and report the GPU Usage... but Mine is 970 WindForce (Gigabyte)

EDIT 2: Just saw ur Grid autosport Video. man U are getting high CPU Usage SPikes.. 4 cores @ 80% or even more.... u must try GRID autosport RACE 1 lap without Any AI cars.. I told u... then U will check if ur GPU are Okay due to low CPU USAGE (or maybe the HIGH cpu usage will be due to High FPS (100 or more) ... because AI Cars Eat CPU !

I actually did try dropping the clocks for GPU all the way down.
Same story, tested with GRID Autosport and Defiance. The GPU usage still jumps around 45, 55, 65% not sticking to 99% like it should.

Didn't try stock clocks on my CPU, but it will probably won't do much except drop fps in games that depend on the CPU.
Those same CPU / RAM clocks were used with my old GTX760 and that card was always showing 99% load in all the games.

I also tried Attract Mode in GRID Autosport. There are 0 AI's in this mode. Still the same, not sticking to 99% GPU load.

Also how do you explain FarCry4 if this is the case.
In FarCry4 the CPU load reaches 90-100% sometimes but GPU usage is still at 99% never drops.

    alright..wich OS/Drivers ?

MSI AB must be the latest. ( 4.1) but u must test with Fraps Only... stop using MSI AB just for compare X FRAPS... also disable ur AV and any Overlay software opened. just keep fraps.

ps. dont looks like to be MSI AB bug but sometimes it could be.. so right now the only way to discover is testing.. why My 970 Run 99% in all games that u get this issue? so must be an software/driver bug. (vsync off to get 99%) but some old games like DARk messiah the card needs 50% to reach 200fps ..lol

    Win7 X64, 347.09, AB 4.1, Vsync off, don't use any AV.
I even turned off AB and just checked GPU-Z after a gameplay.
Same thing GPU is not fully used. Some games show low fps even if you just stare at a freaking wall.

Defiance for example doesn't even switch to boost clocks because of a very low GPU usage, but can hardly reach 50fps even if you stand in one spot and look at the floor.

okay I found an way.. go to GRID Autosport.. he uses 99% of GPU in main menu (any menu screen) .. check ur gpu usage >

if GPU goes to 99% than u must be CPU limited.. something related to cpu or mobo

I will try this when I get home. Are all your settings set to the maximum?

Thought I might share some thoughts here. I had this same drop in performance in almost every game. I solved it like this.

    Use the latest Nvidea driver.
Use the latest version of MSI afterburner.
With MSI AB raise the voltage in my case to 45mv.
Set temp limit and power limit to max.
Set a custom fan profile. I set mine so the fan would spool up at 60c at 60 to 70 percent fan speed.
In general settings of MSI AB check everything.

    In help my situation.

I have my FTW OC to 1478 with boost to about 1725.

I tried it all. Except changing the voltage. Because STRIX is locked at 1.2v anyway. The card is stable at 1.2v even at 1500Mhz boost clock. Really no reason to touch the voltage. It's not it.

Use AIDA64 to see the VRM temperatures of the STRIX.
