Running Win 8.1x64. Windows Update today has a nVidia graphics driver, released today, as an Important update. Is this 347.90? Didn't show any info about the version.

I had the same thing pop up.

Best to ignore unless you absolutely need WDDM drivers.

They are usually almost always an older set without Nvidia enhancements for games/programs.

Same optional driver update appeared for me too in Windows 8.1. I already have v347.09 WHQL installed so I am surprised to see any graphics driver prompt at all as I doubt they are newer than the ones I already have. As per usual, Microsoft are utterly and predictably useless/incompetent (delete as applicable) when it comes to providing simple information like the version number of this driver!!! Why not just show it alongside the driver description? Duh? Sometimes I think their Driver Update department is ran by Chimpanzees or something because how else do you explain such obvious facts missing from driver updates of all things???

Nothing wrong with Windows Update drivers, they are just abit old most of the time.

WHQL drivers should be on win update before or at the least same time as Nvidia site though, so this might be a good thing.

    Anyone tried these then?

Holy crap dude, did Microsoft kill your cat or something? That's some unbelievable rage for something so redundant.

Anyway, not on my PC right now, but doesn't the KB page show the driver version? Windows Update drivers are for people who install and forget, they aren't for us.

It's version 344.91 and OpenGL driver is still 4.4, so it seems to be an older branch than 347.90.

    Rage?!? lol

Sorry but there was no anger in that post, just a lot of annoyance at how useless Microsft can be at times. How are people supposed to know if they should install these drivers if they don't even know what version they are? I cannot find anything about these drivers; even the link in the driver information is dead! :3eyes:

The only time I let WU install drivers, is when I am at a loss and can't find them anywhere else

(or when Im fixing a computer as a freebie and cba spending hours looking for stuff :D )

hrmm.. seems like my windows update installed this driver a few days after I had freshly installed 347.09

is there a way to uninstall it?
I don't see it listed in the 'Uninstall A Update' list.

Considering how far behind Microsoft usually is with drivers, I'd disable the feature in Windows that automatically installs them for you.

    Google: device installation settings

Windows Update provides drivers as a convenience for those that are too lazy/ignorant/etc to locate and install the correct drivers themselves. It's not people like us that have no issue locating drivers manually.

There's no version number because the people that rely on Windows Update to download and install new drivers typically don't have a need to know the version number. The driver updates are released so far apart that driver version isn't going to be an issue.

If you're running the latest nVidia provided driver, don't worry about the driver on Windows Update. Yes, it's older. The WU system doesn't know it's older because it has a more recent date due to being posted by MS much later.

    thanks
