8gb 980s... sounds like a bright future. but why not run 1 8gb and one much less if the memory does not stack?

This seems ridiculous to me. The day I will be able to purchase separate components for laptops (like in desktops) is the day I switch from desktops.

I want to choose a laptop case, a laptop mobo, a laptop cpu, a laptop gpu. Why is this not a thing? Because they milk more money from us the way it currently is ofc.

Dat price, gaming laptops are ridicilously overpriced.

  6. Two of the best mobile GPUs with 8GB of VRAM, to drive an ordinary 1080p screen.

    Genius!

And then a mechanical kb, and all the blank space above it...

    Dunno what they were thinking.

Being retired, we take a lot of road trips from a few days to as many as a few weeks. I've been looking forward to this laptop since is was announced. Price is higher that I thought, but then the specs are too. I'll buy one. The only question is to buy now or wait to see if a lower priced model is offered. Either way, this lappy is impressive.

I don't like the design at all. It looks more like a toy, than a serious horsepower housing..

Yeah but if you look at the last photo, that "space" has alot of components directly underneath so theres nothing you can really do with it except print a pretty picture.

Well lets say they put the keyboard up where that stuff is and put that stuff down where the keyboard is now. That would mean your palm would be resting on a surface that's at the same height as the keys when typing. So you would be pressing the keys below the base of your palm. Which would induce carpal tunnel literally overnight.

I don't think the design is pretty but if you want a mechanical keyboard in a laptop that's the only way to do it.

It's called a barebones laptop, they do exist.

Restricted to the CPU, GPU, storage and RAM though.

Would hope you are being sarcastic. If not try dragging around a desktop with the same spec's. Not to mention the ability to hook the laptopt upto a monitor or Big Screen TV

Well not the only way, they could have moved the keyboard up one or two inches and rounded off the front of the case, voila, built in wrist rest.

But looks fine as it is TBH, although i'd never get a gaming laptop.

Well regardless of the fact that it is a laptop, I think it is a thing of beauty (beastly beauty). Kind of reminds me of the old alienware style laptops.

That's just the nature of the market, it's only really resellers that get a hold of the cpu and gpu, you can't go to nvidia directly and get a new gpu, because I guess most laptop manufacturers don't want you screwing around with the laptops.

Not to mention maintaining compatibility for new cards seems something that clevo at least, and probably other manufacturers don't want to do. Rather just pump out a new laptop and get more money.

I agree. It's funny because I believe they would actually get about the same money if they made those components available to the average consumer.

Think about it. How many times have you heard people complaining about their laptops but not actually upgrading because they're expensive? I would instantly build a laptop if that would happen, and it's not some ****ty laptop since it has an i7-2670QM, 630m (enough to play what I need at minimum when I'm travelling) 8gigs of ram and an ssd.
