Hey there guru's and guru'ets so here's my story. I ran a GT9800 until roughly around the time the 500 series cards came out, than when the 600 series came out I scooped up a GTX465 at a nice price. I was very satisfied with the performance of my 9800gt until I started stressing mods in skyrim. Now my gtx465 is showing its age with a rough average of 25-35fps@1920x1080 on medium settings in most newer games. I play a lot of both newer and older games and am looking to upgrade soon. I would like to keep my price range around $350 for a single card. IMO dual GPU's, or even dual cards are nice, but cannot be utilized to their full potential in a lot of instances.

What is my solution? Should I just go slightly older and find a GTX780 for a good price, or should I wait and see what the 900 series has to offer?

970 would probably be your best bet if you can manage another $48 or so - might be cheaper in the US, that's about the cheapest Ive seen them in the UK (£250)

My other question was going to be, on my new setup here with the FX AMD chip, am I even looking at the right upgrade? I have always wanted an Intel setup, but prior to this new job there would be no way for me to afford one. Now that I could start ordering parts one at a time, should I wait on the GPU to upgrade the rest of my system first? I have just heard horror stories that these chips suck ass with new games, and this chip is no good for gaming, although so far no real complaints from me :)

My current setup is under my name buddy, and I love NVidia chips. IMO there is no better solution for a gaming rig.

No clue what the AMD 6800k is supposed to be? If you mean the APU A10-6800k then you just made a horrible mistake with that apu.

they not that bad really I have an 6800k and tested with an gtx970 to be honest the 970 is way to over powered for the 6800k it will never push the card to it full power, save a few quid and get something along the lines of an gtx760 or r9 285x that's more than enough for the 6800k, the lack of no l3 cache doesn't help the matter with these apu's

here's my testing the apu with an gtx 970, r9 290x I have some with the 760 if you want to look at them

The problem is you just spend 130 bucks on a CPU thats outperformed literally by most 60 buck CPU's.

Second he probably shelled another 60-120 bucks on a FM2-Slot motherboard.

Its just a weird way to upgrade your build, not smart, not looking into future for next upgrade, etc, etc...

You could always snag up a 670/760 for a good price now any more would be a waste on that CPU.

if money is an issue I would advise on something along the lines of r9 270. that will see you by until you save for a better motherboard and cpu I would go the way of an intel i5 45xx/46xx cpu and asus motherbard if on a budget.
