Latest drivers you can Downsample is 14.4. If you have any newer drivers you will have to roll back to 14.4. This is tested and works with HD6950 2GB. It should work with 6-series cards with no problem. If you have different series card you can try it and see if it works. Step 1. Install 12.11 driver. Apply any resolution in DownsampleGUI tool. You can download the tool here: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=366244 Step 2. Find your registry entry. It is called ModeTimingOverrides. RUN-> regedit -> search "ModeTimingOverrides" Export all the registry files containing that name. You should have around 13,14 reg files exported. Edit ALL the regfiles, delete the old code, paste the new CODE. NEW CODE: 00,00,00,00,00,0a,00,00,a0,05,00,00,3c,\ 00,00,00,0f,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,98,08,00,00,00,00,\ 00,00,80,07,00,00,00,00,00,00,58,00,00,00,2c,00,00,00,65,04,00,00,00,00,00,\ 00,38,04,00,00,00,00,00,00,04,00,00,00,05,00,00,00,7e,43,02,00,00,00,00,00,\ 00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,80,00,00,00,a0,\ 0a,00,00,fa,05,00,00,3c,00,00,00,0f,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,\ 00,00,98,08,00,00,00,00,00,00,80,07,00,00,00,00,00,00,58,00,00,00,2c,00,00,\ 00,65,04,00,00,00,00,00,00,38,04,00,00,00,00,00,00,04,00,00,00,05,00,00,00,\ 7e,43,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,01,\ 00,00,00,00,00,00,00,80,00,00,00,40,0b,00,00,54,06,00,00,3c,00,00,00,0f,00,00,00,02,00,\ 00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,98,08,00,00,00,00,00,00,80,07,00,00,00,00,00,\ 00,58,00,00,00,2c,00,00,00,65,04,00,00,00,00,00,00,38,04,00,00,00,00,00,00,\ 04,00,00,00,05,00,00,00,7e,43,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,\ 00,00,00,02,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,80,00,00,00,88,0e,00,00,70,08,00,00,3c,00,\ 00,00,0f,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,98,08,00,00,00,00,00,\ 00,80,07,00,00,00,00,00,00,58,00,00,00,2c,00,00,00,65,04,00,00,00,00,00,00,\ 38,04,00,00,00,00,00,00,04,00,00,00,05,00,00,00,7e,43,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,\ 00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,80,00,00,00 Step 3. Install 14.4 Driver Reboot Apply all the registry edited files with new CODE! Reboot New resolutions: Step 4. Make sure that you have unchecked "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" Make sure that you have checked "Reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays If you do not have this option, you can't use the 3720x2160. Image will be corrupted. So you have to be connected with DVI cable. Important: Make sure you select resolutions in order. First apply 2720x1530 the you can apply 3720x2160. You can't jump from 1920x1080 to 3720x2160. Also before running any game make sure you set the resolution in windows to 2720x1530! Screenshot: why not 3840? because the max is 3720 anything above results in corrupted image. it is not exactly 16:9 but is good enough. You can't see the difference, really. This procedure I always do when need to reinstall windows. It has worked for me. Hope it will work for you. Cheers:kermit:
my display has a native resolution of 2048*1152 and is connected via vga, will this still work for me?
try it, maybe 2720x1530 will work, but 3720x2160 most likely will not I didn't test this with vga. So i don't know
no, because everybody has different ModeTimingOverrides. the numbers are different. it won't work for you. you have to create your own ModeTimingOverrides, then edit them.
Thanks! Although going back to 14.4 is a pretty steep price to pay. On the happy note, downsampling via custom resolution with Nvidia introduces latency  With AMD??? I have no idea because I've never made it work But that DSR thingie... here's one sad panda that we don't have that
Worked like a charm. Thanks a lot. Edit: I've installed the driver 14.9.2b on top of 14.4 and still working.
how did you manage that, i tried with 14.9.2b and all i get is blank screen on any downsampled resolution, no picture. what card do you have? ok.. i've done some testing. I need to set on gpu scaling maintain aspect ratio. then 2720x1530 works. But 3720x2160 does not work, and when i switch to 3720x2160 it automatically switches from "maintain aspect ratio" to "use center timings" and there's no picture. just blank screen.
I have a HD7870 2GB Sapphire. Did everything like you told, but using DDu between the new drivers. After that, I got the driver from AMD site, and then just installed on top the 14.4 without using the DDU. I've tested with "Kingdown Wars" and "Dragon Age Origins" using the 2720x1530 resolution. EDIT: Indeed, my bad. I haven't tested that resolution (I got some problems with resolutions up to 2720x1530 using the GeDoSaTO, so... ). The black screen poped here too after trying. Sorry for the poor english.
yes, 3720x2160 won't work with latest drivers, but with 14.4 works fine, anyway for me it is worth to keep 14.4 and 3720x2160 because games look absolutely fantastic, especially fc3. and it is not too demanding, running smooth 30-37 fps, fc3 3720x2160
Is this something like CRU, which i can create new resolutions but i need to reduce the Hz my monitor uses or is this just pure downsampling?
downsampling this way implies to have a scaler built in the screen , isnt it ? in this case, my eizo can't handle that .
