I personally hate it. Main reason being the time difference between other countries you have friends/family living in. Just makes communication more difficult due to the extra hour!
Hence the "period" part (due to the summertime) PS: I know you got my point and I got yours, so why I posted in the first place.. for discussions sake, I think
Sunrise here is currently 6.11 am and sunset 7.48 pm, and that's with daylight saving. without it the sunrise would be 5.11 am and sunset 6.48 pm. So I guess for here it works, although in some areas of the world it would probably make less sense to have it.
If you didn't have it, the very same people who don't like it will be complaining the sun rises too early in summer and that they could make better use of that extra daylight in the evening. If only there was some way...
Only state able to remember is Arizona. They do not follow the whole DST schedule. Summer months, kids always say it cannot be bedtime since the sun is still up. Would think that if everyone switched to compact fluorescents or LEDs the energy savings would be greater than what is achieved by this single hour shift.
I hate that I feel like it's an hour later than it should be now. Always takes so long to adjust to the time shifting around.
The idea of daylight savings is actually partly described in the name. In the summer months, the time of sunrise can be very early. With daylight savings, you move the clock forward, so instead of sunrise being at 4.45 am (as an example) it is 5.45 am. Since you are moving the clocks forward, it means that sunset may be say, 8.55 pm instead of 7.55 pm. It allows for people to do stuff in the evening, like bbq's, time at the beach, sports etc.
I think it is the most useless the norther one goes. Cause when it is supposed to have that saving effect the days are already goddamn long. Compared to southern parts. During summer in southern finland for example sun sets around 23:00 and comes back up around 3-4 am. And in north loads of the summer is just nightless nights sun does not set.
