The game is fantastic so far (I've just reached chapter 5). The first 2 Resident Evil games are among my all time favourite video games so this doesn't dissapoint at all. The tone and pace are perfect. Evil Within makes Resident Evil 6 look like a Disney cartoon. I'm playing this on the xbone and my only issues are the black bars and the controls are a bit awkward at times.

To all the moaners out there, remember this is a survival horror game, not an action fps. Play it on a big screen, turn the lights down, turn the sound up and enjoy the ride.

Must be, as it runs fine for me on a 290x, also loved what ive played so far, was bloody great trying to avoid that nutjob with the chainsaw, bloody hilarious when he chops your head off, or shoves it right through you, and lifts you up, the amount of blood splattering all over the shop out of you! :D

Tried to stab him once as well which was fun :p

I'll be starting again tomorrow with the black bars back on, as doesn't actually look too bad tbh, and i'll be really getting stuck into it, as have more time.

i feel I'm playing a different game to the rest of you, total trash imo.
crap performance, fiddly controls and looks like a sack of sh*t.

Just finished first 26min. Looks great, works even better. Never seen lower than 60fps. Need to sleep, rest of the playing tommorow. :)

Btw, anyone notice some texture popin?

Yes. It seems to be worse for me during cutscenes.

    Another Resident Evil 4? Perfect.
    That's what we need.

Rather that then another RE6 or something in line with the newer Silent Hill games.

When I mean solid performance I mean the game was made for 30fps and 30fps is what works best for this game. I get 30fps and a perfect 33.3ms frame time all the time. A lot of games have issues where certain frames take longer to render thus giving you fluctuating frame times and drops in performance. Ryse is a great example, it is a demanding game but locking it at a lower fps give you a much better overall experience. I get lowest of 45fps in Ryse maxed out so I cap to that and frame times hover around 22.2ms otherwise frame times go up and down massively if unlocked fps.

Yep that was a great way to introduce people to the stealth mechanics, just slap you in a room with that guy and you will learn quickly LOL :p

The issues must be your end cause this game runs perfectly for me, no awkward controls and it looks very good to me. Lighting is great, lens flare is used perfectly, shadows and textures are a little low but other than that it looks great to me. Loving the art style.

Yep I too notice the texture popin during cutscenes, but not too bad. This is IDTECH5 after all.

You sir, are playing this game wrong. How is this guns blazing? I have came acrosss maybe 15-20 bullets total during the first 3 chapters! How it is guns blazing? Plus crank the difficulty up you may find its more or a challenge.

Maybe play it for your self rather than taking the advice of others who are clearly having issues their end don't blame the game when you haven't played it.

This is what Resident Evil 5 and 6 should of been! Gruesome, visceral, chilling, and downright fun to play.

Its good I guess, but there's a lot of frustration, I'm getting killed more by the stupid camera then anything else. The aiming is just horrible and feels clunky. Like enforced mouse acceleration. The texture pop-in is really bad, especially in cutscenes, though that's more IDTech's fault.

Graphics wise I'll be honest it looks like something from 2007. Not a totally bad thing, but its no showcase.

I dont get why people are so negative these days , I played through ryse in 7 hours and I had a great time playing the game.

So next up is the evil within and what really bothers me is how people continue to moan about the 30 fps and black borders.... like seriously

I played throught deadspace 1 and 2 @ 30 fps and I still had a great time doing so even tho they were straigh console ports.

Now the evil within comes along and Iam amazed by all the negative responses because of the 30 fps and the black borders ? has anyone ever tried to play the game as it has meant to be ????

Jump into the game with a open mind forget about the things u been reading on the internet because 95% out of a 100% there is always someone that moans about something!.

Open yourself up ignore and just enjoy a great game yes with black borders/bars and yes if u are smart enough to get your head around how and why the black borders are there you will fully understand the vision of the game.

If you can't wrap your mind around it go and play borderlands the pre sequel and stop your moaning!.

Damn we even have the name for the next Nvidia inside: GTX 7980 ( i joke ofc but nice typo )

I let you go on OpenGL blogs ( made by specialist of it ), this will need a forum topic only for that.

    Awesome. :)
My copy is installing right now. UPS delivered it shortly before I got home, so I only got the chance to install a little while ago.

I was hoping my copy would show up before I came home for lunch, so I could register the key with Steam and download it while I was at work this afternoon. But... nope. UPS wonderfully managed to deliver it right before I got home tonight.
I saw the UPS van drive away from my house when I came down the street.

So, gonna watch the new X-Men movie and play the game when it's over. Thankfully I have fast internet, so, it'll be fully downloaded in about an hour.

Been watching a few streams, this game doesn't seem that good, Alien is a way better survival horror game. Reviews say it picks up toward the end, but not enough to save it...

Comparing Alien isolation and this is pretty pointless. They're way different. Evil Within is more of an actionish horror like Resident Evil, while Alien is a stealth survival horror game.

r_multisamples command does nothing in this game (it worked in wolfenstein tno). devs seemed to have disabled it.

as for textures, there are a few decent to nice looking textures that i've encountered, player models look good and clothing on main character is high-res looking. nearly everything else looks like low-res ass, typical idtech 5 garbage.

the game is actually around 33GB.

    Totally different games.

Alien is based on the new type of horror games like Amnesia, Outlast, etc. Where you have limited or no means of fighting back.

Alien Isolation is a great game, it does however have a VERY steep difficulty level, and there are sections (the ones with the androids) that really lack any sense of tension. But it is still a great game in its own merit.

    1) The game is using a very heavily modded version of idtech5, it doesn't even use OpenGL it was moved over to D3D11.

    2) the game is 33.3GB download but installs to 38.6GB The recommended install of 50GB is for DLC content I think.
