GTX 980 Club - Overclocking - Benchmarks!

It's terrible because I get close to 28K with 3.

He is running 400Mhz (CPU) slower than me but that isn't going to change things dramatically.

I had 4 Titans at one point but I got rid of the fourth because it really didn't bring much to the party.

 

No, I was already using the v344.11 drivers for my GTX 780 so I left them installed. I just powered down, swapped cards and when Windows started it automatically detected my card and reinstalled the driver.

 

Got the two GTX 980's and the results are in! The framerates are impressive coming from a single GTX 680, but without a doubt the cards are being held back by PCI-E 2.0. Even when OC'ing my 2500k to 4.5GHz, the performance gain is minuscule at best.

However, here are the benchies. Tomb Raider (Ultimate preset) and Unigine Heaven at 1080/1440/2160

So the difference between stock 3.7 turbo clock to 4.5 is negligible? I was half expecting something like that tbh.

 

Yeah, clock speeds don't seem to matter much in this instance.
Time to upgrade to PCI-E 3.0!

 

I just got the Asus GTX980 Reference last night.
What are you guys doing about the temps and trottling?

I've created a custom fan profile that keeps the card around 75c@66% fan, but its still fairly loud.
Without doing that my card was throttling back when it hit 81c to 10mhz over base clock speed.
Guessing that's normal?

Sorry for the dumb questions, never bought a reference card before, I've always had custom coolers, but due to the store telling my my pre-ordered and paid for MSI gaming was in stock, me driving 1 1/2 hours to pick it up then told they were sold out, I wasn't going that again so I took the reference Asus and a refund on the rest.

 

IIRC i had low 60s at 70% fan on this titan and its a much hotter chip. Might try doing thermal paste on that, should help 10c if its bad.

 

My reference card has never gone over 73c and I run with default fan profile with maxes out at 70% at that temp and is no lounder than my case fans.

 

Both of my reference cards sit at around 50% fan speed and 79c.
Edit - This is at full load, mind you. Currently I'm playing a modded Skyrim with around 70% usage per GPU and both are in the high 60's, low 70's, with the default fan curve.

IMO, there's no real reason to tinker with the fan curve unless your temps are abnormally high.

 

Mine is hitting 80c and throttle to about 20mhz over stock (in this 15 minute heaven run.)
Fan never went over 47% though.
Ambient is 24c.

 

Well you got me thinking there and seeing as the availability date slipped for the card I ordered, I cancelled and plumped for the MSI GTX 980 Gaming Twin Frozr V instead.

Edit: The Twin Frozr came in stock at Scan, will arrive Monday! :roll:

How GPU with 2000 cores 980 as fast as GPU with 2800 cores 780ti?
Its worth for me upgrade my GPU or wait for high end GPU
Or see what and have on the table.
Because I so 980 is much cheaper then 780ti

And my supply can handle 2 980?

 

Yeah no worries on your PSU. My 850 handles my highly clocked (read 1306/7508) 670's and they use about the same amount of watts.
