As far as i recall, intel had really fierce competition from amd back then, and i bought a super fast (for its time) 600 mhz amd cpu, which thrashed my mates same generation intel processor.

Is it naive to want the biggest tech companies to push as fast tech as possible? I personally dont think so. Would it be a good move from a business perspective? Probably not, but thats why id like amd to push nvidia a whole lot more, so they would be forced to do some real upgrades, and not just cash in.

I upgraded my gtx 570 to gtx 780 last summer - 2 times performance. Gtx 570 came out ultimo 2010 - that is ca. 2,5 years for 200% performance gain.

Edited - my bad, it's getting late, and i can't count anymore...

AMD have actually been gaining market share, if they weren't this launch wouldn't be happening as quickly as it is.

Well, I don't really think that what that site says counts as 'official' any more than the other rumors flying around but at $549.00, I'll take 3 :)

If u don`t believe the price is 549 u can pay more,I really don`t care.
But many retailers also confirmed that this is the price for GTX 980.

Doesn't seem like he really cares if he has to pay more to me :)

Thank you for the post to benchies.. this card, if priced at $550 is strong in my opinion.

    Makes the 970 around £184, (220+VAT), and the 980 around £336 (403+VAT).

Lets se how much they are hiked. :p

    Still sucks in Crysis3, 45fps @ 1080p.. Will defo wait for GM200 :p

BF3 bench is also disappointing 3-4fps faster then 780ti @ stock. Or any other benchmark there, 4-5fps difference at best 780ti vs 980gtx.

But ok, its great for mid-range performance gpu, price not so much.

Ethne you serious? imo wait for GM200, why lose 2gb ram to gain 4-5 fps here and there.. That difference is easily 0fps difference @ 100mhz OC.

It is cheaper and better then a 780Ti and with time the driver will become more mature and faster...also I like new "toys".Happy that I sold my 780Ti and didn`t lose any money, now I`m just waiting for the best implementation of the GTX 980,Asus,MSI or EVGA.
LE: by the time full GM200 will be released we will closer to Pascal release...the waiting game is not my thing.

I doubt drivers are going to impact the performance of this card much. It's not much different than Kepler and 780Ti's only saw a 6% increase in performance since launch from drivers.

What is even stronger is the 970 at $220 less. Absolute bargain.

After reading the new technologies coming out with Maxwell I'm pretty impressed :D

I know your joking it will be 4GB vs. 8GB. Just watch.

SLI-756 is already on record saying 4GB is not enough for 1080p with no AA in up coming games.
