    This is a good example why I didn't add that to the guide. There is no evidence that changing the Section ID actually is beneficial.

    You would think you would at least try just following the guide like normal before going crazy. Just try it, then report back.

    Are there any purposes at all to inf modding, other than Quadro drivers? And how is actual driver modding done?

    To use any driver that does not support your video card. Using Quadro drivers on Geforce cards, using leaked drivers (sometimes from manufacturers, or even MS update), drivers made for specific cards (like the Titan driver) for all cards, using desktop drivers on laptop video cards, adding support for older cards in newer drivers, adding support for newer cards in older drivers... I'm sure there is more but I think you get the idea.

    And what do you mean by actual driver modding?

    Oh so no one really does that anymore. ._.

    I thought people used to be really into driver modding for iq, performance, etc.

    Yeah, this obviously does not cover that, unless a leaked/quadro or whatever driver adds new features or performance fixes in games that the current official drivers for your card don't have yet. It happens, like when we could try out FXAA in the driver before it came out officially for Geforce.

    What you are probably thinking about is the Omega/tweakforce drivers. Which really shouldn't be used in the same sentence, Omega drivers actually made somewhat of a difference- almost 15 years ago. Tweakforce claims they still do that, but offer no difference. Turns out you can't out do a company with a huge R&D department.

    Maybe I'm throwing a bone across a lake here, but if there was demand for it they could be tweaked to combat oversimplification to cater for the least common denominator. By that I mean that normal drivers are made to work for gpus ranging from 780Ti's to 7600gts made I'm almost a decade ago. But this is something those r343's are supposed to remedy. :banana:

    I have a feeling that will help more with the size of the driver download, and less with the performance. I hope I'm wrong, but we already seen that they can add extensive performance improvements with 337.50+ for just DX11 gfx cards while keeping older card support.

    Also, interestingly enough, the latest driver NVidia offers for a 7600 GT according to the driver downloads site is the GeForce 307.83 Driver. Same with any 7000 series card. Only the 8000 series gets the newer drivers, which can use the new Shader Cache option in the drivers being that they are the first DX10 card from NVidia.

    I have no idea if the newer drivers (newer then 307.83) actually have DX9 card support, but unlisted. If not, then they have already removed DX9 card support for a while now.

    Hello all, I am posting this as for the last few drivers that I have modded have resulted in a black screen with a constant flicker after the drivers have installed. I do have a laptop with Nvidia Optimus enabled and not sure since the .inf points to a section without Optimus if that is why I am experiencing this issue. Also when I run the install, it shows multiple programs to install that are not normally available when I run an official build, so that could also be an issue. Any suggestions, as I like to have the latest and greatest drivers!?

    Edit: I tried editing the .inf further by copying and pasting the few lines from the official release over the Section095's and it worked! I replaced only the lines after "FeatureScore = DA" to where "[Section095.CoInstallers]" start and it showed me the same programs to install and no black screen!

    Nice. Yeah, the inf is actually really simple to navigate once you wrap your mind around it.

    Like I say in the guide, follow the instructions, only just paste all the strings into the strings section and all the device IDs into every OS section.

    Because i work on a one special driver.
    I have added these entries:

    Code:
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0F02% = Section030,                  PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0F02
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0FC8% = Section093,                  PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0FC8
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1007% = Section093,                  PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1007
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1008% = Section093,                  PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1008
    %NVIDIA_DEV.104C% = Section030,                  PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_104C
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1286% = Section093,                  PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1286
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1287% = Section093,                  PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1287
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1288% = Section093,                  PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1288
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1380% = Section093,                  PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1380
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1381% = Section093,                  PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1381
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1382% = Section093,                  PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1382

    Code:
    NVIDIA_DEV.0F02 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 730"
    NVIDIA_DEV.0FC8 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 740"
    NVIDIA_DEV.1007 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 "
    NVIDIA_DEV.1008 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti"
    NVIDIA_DEV.104C = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 705"
    NVIDIA_DEV.1286 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 720"
    NVIDIA_DEV.1287 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 "
    NVIDIA_DEV.1288 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 "
    NVIDIA_DEV.1380 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti"
    NVIDIA_DEV.1381 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750"
    NVIDIA_DEV.1382 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745"
    is that correct?

    I mean... the numbers seem to match up. If that is from another driver then I'd imagine it's fine. Best way to find out is to try to install it.
