Yeah the have a good following already and loads of parts, Im just doing research and making a mental notes of things i want.

As a standard car it is pretty capable, the torque dip in the middle of the RPM range is slightly annoying but planning on keeping this one for a while.

 

Did some off roading this weekend - amazed at how well it did considering it's 2wd

Yea, the Evo has a lot of tech working to keep the shiny side up, but as someone with a few hundred hours of track time and professional instruction logged in my recently sold 2007 Evo IX, those systems are so unobtrusive that half the time it felt like they weren't even on.

My Evo IX had a GT30-R, 3 plate race clutch, custom 3" exhaust with bypass valve for the track, AMS FMIC, KW coil overs, cusco sway bars all round, walbro fuel delivery, FIC injectors, AMS fuel rail, and a nice sticky set of hoosiers.

Here's she is about 3 weeks after I bought her from Huntington Beach Mitsubishi. I love the look people give you at the track when you still have paper plates on your car. lol. The track is ButtonWillow here in California.



I had to sell the Evo in 2009 when the economy tanked and lost my job running the North American operations for Oettinger GmbH, the Audi/VW tuning company in Germany.

Here's my current 2010 Audi A4 2.0t 6-speed manual, quattro, sport, prestige package, Bang & Olufsen 15 speaker system, MMI 3g, black leather inside, Meteor gray pearl effect outside. Only mods are full APR (audi performance & racing) software reprogramming, custom exhaust, and dynamat extreme coating the entire trunk, doors, and footwells.

Bought this today.
Done 160k's which for me is on the high side, but comes with full service history and an options package list longer than my arm.





Haven't seen it first hand yet as it's 1100k's away in Christchurch. Flying down Friday to get it.







Was a tossup between the above 530i or this 525i motorsport below with 108k's on the clock. Both in Christchurch.





I like the motorsport package but decided on the 530i because I abhor silver and because the seller was a genuine wanker.

He sent me these 2 ****e 32k photo's, when I asked for more/ better quality pics he suggested I should fly to ChCh for a closer look.
Ironic since his other listings had "serious traders only" typed at the bottom.

Other guy had 15-20 quality shots.


530i was $1500 less than 525i. Did I make the right choice or no? What do u guys think...?

 

Good buy. Sport package is nice but I had a 2000 528i with the standard body kit and I loved it, but then mine was on sport suspension and 18" style 32 alloys too.
Mine had the very rare DSP pack, which meant the stereo had a much needed subwoofer on the parcel shelf, mates here in the UK without DSP were amazed as their stock setup was awful.
At 140,000miles I had my tranny flushed as it was starting to bang on kickdown, the gearbox is supposedly sealed for life, but they ain't. I assume by 160k you mean 160,000kms? in which case it will be due for the flush. I know a guy in Tauranga that does it, but not sure where you are in the North, though I'm guessing somewhere in the middle if you are 1100kms from Crusaders country.
I loved mine and wished I never got rid of it, but since then I've had a Mondeo ST220 Estate, Volvo S60 2.5T and now a Merc C320 petrol (all in the space of 9 months), which is nice, but not as good as the 5 was.

 

i have no idea how chip tuning works but i saw on turkey ebay that:

Freelander 2 chip for increasing HP from 240 to 300.. and gives some torque

how? they show a chip device etc..is this working in a healthy way for the engine? i have no idea who can plug it to my vehicle anyway lol.

 

I wouldn't trust a plug in device, certainly not to deliver that kind of performance, the best way is for a tuner to program it over the cars OBD port direct to the ECU, rather than a piggy device that only tricks the ECU.

Normally the programming is a map made for your country, taking into consideration the quality of fuel and climate. Adjustments are made that allow for this and it can smooth out the torque, adjust the timing to give more power etc.

However, I am struggling to work out what model you are talking about as no Freelander 2 makes 240bhp, I can see the 3.2 petrol makes 230bhp, but you aren't going to see a 60bhp increase on a non turbo petrol and not without other mods too.
THe most powerful diesel Freeland 2 is the 2.2, which is only 157bhp, so are you saying perhaps the torque increases from 240 to 300? that is more believable.

Has HiFi system which includes 2x 8" subs under the front seats from what I read. Some say the speakers are a bit rattly though.

Also looking forward to hacking the GPS so it works in NZ and hopefully adding a USB aux which I understand is possible....that would be great. Guess I'll know soon enough. lol

I heard the trans is sealed or some crap and must be cracked open to change fluid...? weird...

 

It's just the ONE Ferrari. There is also a Maserati, Lamborghini Aventador, Bentley Continental GT and an Audi R8.

I've seen all of them in action, very nice indeed.

 

I don't know if it is that serious, I just gave it to a BMW indie and he had the tools set up to drain and fill, I don't know what he did or if anything else apart from the fluid was replaced, but it was a lot nicer afterward. I know on my C320, they were initially sealed for life too, then they released a pack to replace the gearbox pan, seal and fluid after conceding there were too many premature failures.
I can ask my bro in law (Pakuranga), is he in the car game so might be able to recommend a good BMW indie or gearbox specialist.

 

I had a chip on my 335. It worked all right.

Granted, custom maps were really immature at the time.
You could probably get a decent map these days.

Just wanted to stop by and say howdy to the old folks from the early 2000's if any remember me, lol. Howdy Hilbert.

Still ain't got it, but I will have it one day. I did pose for a pic in a local fellow's car. He does weddings with it, lol.

 

I arrived back in Auckland yesterday after clocking up 2700km's touring the South Island. Car was in immaculate condition just as described.... Jeff Grey BMW in Christchurch gave me all maintenance records which amounted to an astonishing $6500. Seems the last owner had plenty of money.....

Without a doubt this 530i is the most incredible piece of machinery I have ever driven, the ride, handling, performance, options, comfort....extra thoughtful touches BMW made, even fuel economy on long trips...

I could go on and on and then some about how amazing it is......way better than the older 525 I had.

Really glad I went with the 530 instead of 525 too....steptronic trans in manual mode was a dream coming over Arthur's Pass, just like a 5 speed manual.

 

Oh man, now I want one again. I'm trying to get a job in NZ so I can come home. Had been thinking about bringing an E39 with me, but since 2012 NZ will only allow a EuroIV car in, my BenZ C320 ain't either so that can't come, I don't really want to spend money on a E60 as it would have to be a later one to be EuroIV as well. But hearing what you said, damn, I may have to, cos NZ roads would suit the car well.
I never had my E34 525 long enough to take it for a good jaunt, though the wifes 318IS couple was great handling, it lacked considerably in power, and I really only had big FWD Jappa V6s after that.
Definitely something big and german I think.
