I know at one point AMD actually had updated AMD 6 series chipset drivers on their website for Vista. They have ones listed now, 13.4, but on their own 6 series lookup tab says they are for 7 series and up, and when actually trying to install them, nothing is installed. Made AMD aware they have a driver listed on their website that doesn't even work, and, they do not care. :bang: I'm wondering, does anyone have an updated driver? The ones I'm having to use on fresh install of Vista are the one from Gigabyte: v8.38, July 3rd 2007. Thanks! Chuck
You may try find the driver based on the Hardware ID, you can try the driver from other motherboard website.
download a driver scanning program such as uniblue or driveragent, dont pay for it, just let it scan. When it finds your new drivers and asks to pay to download them. Ignore that, just google the drivers it gives you and you will find them for download for free.
Which motherboard are you referring to? The Asrock that you have listed in you profile which is listed here: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970 Extreme4/?cat=Download&os=Vista has newer drivers then you have indicated?
I looked up an Asus motherboard with a 6 series chipset here: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M2AVM/ Downloads here: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M2AVM/HelpDesk_Download/ They have a Chipset driver listed with the date of 2008/01/18. Direct download url is http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/AMD_Chipset_Driver_Vista.zip This should also work on you Gigabyte motherboard. Run the file named " Setup.exe " instead of the file named " AsusSetup.exe " and the drivers should install.
Good idea, never thought of that! Never had used those programs, I will give them a look after I get this redo build done and back. Watcher, another good idea that you did was checking at Asus. I'll give that driver a try tomorrow when I have the machine. If it works that would be better than the one Gigabyte has! P.S. Yes I have my Asrock listed, but this is one of my uncle and aunts business PCs. Thanks All! (and thanks for nothing AMD!)
You are welcome, long time ago, I also using the similar ways to find the newer AHCI driver too. ;P And, you got many free driver update software, the weakness of this type of software is they are automatic mode as default, and causing many issues to the user. I will recommend changing the mode to professional mode for download the driver completely, then install the driver yourself.
