the card is HIS R9 280X iPower IceQ X² Boost Clock verison http://www.hisdigital.com/us/product2-773.shtml with 1000/1500MHz default clock speed and 1144 mV core voltage, when playing games, such as BF4 at 2560x1440 with all max settings, even in 3DMark 11 extreme mode, the GPU temperature never reaches 74c, around 68-72c

but when mining with cgminer 3.7.2, the GPU temperature can reached to 95-97c, and the core speed starts to lower to 850MHz, even 550MHz, otherwise, the GPU temperature can even reached to 100c ! I touched the heat pipes, the surface temperature is only a little warm, so I doubt the malfunctions of the heat-pipes, so I changed the heater and the fan with the third party one, but the same result, the GPU temperature is still the same

I also use MSI Afterbuner to lower the core voltage from 1144 mv to 1.033 mv, the GPU temperature is the same as before, so anyone could help me out of this problem ? Thank you!

What's the conf you use with the miner?

    -I 13 -g 2 -w 256 --shaders 2048 --thread-concurrency 8192

    and

    -w 256 -g 2 --thread-concurrency 11200 --intensity 13

    all the same result

Back a couple of years ago when I was mining, I found that underclocking the memory helped greatly on the temperature. Of course I was running dedicated mining rigs at the time.

This is what I use and it works great for me:
    "setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
    cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://doge.netcodepool.org:4094 -u worker.worker1 -p worker1password --thread-concurrency 22528 -I 16 --temp-cutoff 70"

I have a 7950, slightly less powerful than your model but I'm running the same clocks. I hash 560Kh/s.
I found no use in using terms like g2 or g1, they either added instability or nothing at all.

My card does not go over 56C when mining. 76% fan. 50% increased power limit.

hi all guys, than you for all your help, finally, I can confirm both my GPU and cooler have problem, the VDDC of the GPU was too high at 1.2V, and I modified
the BIOS dozens of times, finally, set the VDDC to 1.025V with 925MHz core speed and 1375MHz mem speed***65292;combined with a third-party cooler***65292;now it can get 680KH/s at 1000MHz/1375Hz speed at 59c with the case opened.

    That sounds more like it!
    Glad you got it working!

Your're really hashing that well at I 13 though? I need a new card! :)

yes, now my old 7970 is mining with my 280x, 7970 get 710KH/s at 85c, 280x get 680KH/s at 58c, need time to modify the 7970's BIOS
