The cessation of Windows 7 sales is right now a mere formality for Microsoft. Seeing how long it took Microsoft to actually get serious about shutting down XP, Windows 7 may outlive us all.... Microsoft Ends Windows 7 Retail Sales
Meh. If people want 7 for home use they can get it in other ways I'm sure OEM's have enough clout to be able to sell 7 anyway. MS' mainstream support is worthless now as it only means receiving the latest version of IE.
Personally the sale of Windows 7 should have stop the day Windows 8 was available for retail sale with the end of all updates. It is just silly to keep supporting something that is obsolete and outdated.
How old are you? If Win 7 was a free release then ending support might be of value to M$ but that's not the case is it? Android is free and G8gle have drop support for roms like gingerbred. On a side note M$ intentionally flooded the market with releases in order to steer masses away from XP this has happened not because users were unhappy with service packs but because they began chasing concepts that they didn't understand. They have shifted away from productivity and now they refuse to listen to customer's feedback which is just as bad as dropping support of which you're so fond of.
I'd be really happy if the title of the article was "Microsoft End Windows 8 Retail Sales A Year Later". Windows 8 looks like the old America Online welcome screen, bleh
