680s flashed to 770 BIOS - Successes & Failures

I can run memory at 7k np. but gets too hot and then the driver crashes. My 2 cards are only air cooled and very close to each other. If I had watercooling on them I can run 7k memory all the time.

 

Here is an example of 3DMark score of running on 7k memory

I can run certain things on 7k memory fine but if the game of other benchmark are too taxing for a long period of time and temps reach about 70C or higher the second card without the custom cooler fails and gives me the driver has stopped responding and has recovered error.

I used the BIOS on my GTX 770 for a GTX 680 few days with no problem, even enjoyed because it lowered the gpu clock.

But I did a BIOS update Motherboard, this same Motherboard and GTX 680 gave no image.

I set the Bios GTX 680 and everything was normal, but now when I burn the bios for GTX 770 does not have any image, PC alloy usually enters the windows and everything, but no image.

Any idea what might have happened?

Any tips on how can the BIOS editor of the GTX 680 with 1.21v not to download the Gpu Clock?

That's normal it seems that manufactures put out some new I'd check in their newer motherboard BIOS's that do not like unmatched hardware/firmware ID's had to flash my old 6950 back from the 6970 BIOS it was on after a BIOS update.

 

maybe that why i can't flash my 680 to 770.

 

I switched Motherboard recently and continued anyway.

I would like some advice to edit the Bios and not let download the gpu clock.

I would of thought so yeh, give it a shot, but make sure to backup your current bios, the MSI card have the bios switch so if any problems just use that to get your card to post again if any problems.

But i don't know how to unlock tri-voltage in Afterburner.:3eyes:

Stock bios (770Lightning LN2) super stable in gtx 680 lightning, i just need unlock voltage, power limit to overclock .:banana:

 

I'm having some issues on the stock BIOS's now that I don't think I did before. It's like vertical screen tearing when scrolling up-down. I'm gonna backup and reinstall Windows and see what's up.

Oh, and whatever you do, don't use Far Cry 3 to test overclocks. I'm having downclock issues at stock with this damn game.

 

I’ve had success flashing the 770 LN2 Lightning BIOS on the 680L but AB no longer recognizes it as a Lightning so I lost the OC\OV options compared to the 680L 3A BIOS... so not an option (no 1.36 OV :banana.

Now on the other hand, I’m currently using the standard 770 Lightning BIOS on the standard BIOS of the 680L... get an addition 28MHz Boost on the core and RAM is defaulted to 7000MHz. This is what I use for gaming, 100% stable and no need to run OCing utilities in the background, default fan profile keeps temps in check at around 50c and very quite... me like.

Not sure what’s wrong with your FC3, no issues with it here. It’s a good game (among others) for finding week overclocks.

 

I've had abysmal luck with FC3 on any hardware config I've tried. Compared to my 7950, running a 680 was a little smoother and crashed a little less, but it still happens a lot more than any AAA game ought to. That game is a damned coding nightmare.


So, new update. I'm back on stock BIOS's for my 680s, 1.175V limit and all. I also just reinstalled my OS and did some quick benching. Results?

Both cards, stable, are pulling significantly higher average scores than my previous runs. I have no idea what's different. The hardware is all the same, and the only real differences are about a dozen additional programs installed and 10-ish games. I wouldn't think this would be enough to make this kind of difference, but I'll take it. Next step is to test these singly on an unlocked 680 BIOS, then again on a 770 BIOS. I expect great things. :thumb:

Take-home message: for a 2600k, core clock matters a lot when running two 680s in SLI. The higher I pushed the CPU, the higher my score got. I don't know if I can safely push past 5GHz while still on air; I'll save the 5.2 and 5.4 runs for water. Once again, I'm butting up against the unlocked voltage 770 BIOS score at much lower core clocks and splitting the difference in memory clocks. Not freakin' bad at all. An unlocked voltage 680 BIOS might be all I need for 100+ FPS.

I wonder how these stark improvements bode for future BIOS flashing? :3eyes:

Freshly reinstalled 770 BIOS. Same one holy and I've been rockin'. That'd be my new personal best with these cards in Valley, and it's stable so far (three runs). Chart came from an earlier run; temps just kept climbing. :3eyes:

 

I just did this to my GTX680 TFIII/OC yesterday and worked great! I used the MSI 80.04.C3.00.1E bios from a gtx770 gamer, found here http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/141259/msi-gtx770-2048-130611.html

can only get the core upto 1240 (previously 1210), but I do have freaky memory that does 7.8ghz. GPU boost 2.0 is much better as well

 

Very nice that more & more people do this and report back. I see this as a benefit to GTX680 owners not wanting to upgrade just yet and love tweaking and getting more out of their current GPU's.

Still rocking stable on the 770 firmware on both my 680's

Interesting results, no? Heaven continues to confound me; I can do better in it at the expense of the other three benchmarks, or I can do even better on lower clocks (I've got a 77 FPS run somewhere on the locked 680 BIOS). I just don't get it. All in all though, a general and notable improvement. I expect with 5.0 GHz clock I can break 17k in 3DMark 11. Not sure I can hit the 13k mark I see highly OC'd 770 users get with in Fire Strike. Valley I'm aiming for 103; whatever I do to get higher probably won't be gaming stable.

 

So has anyone tried this with one of the 4GB BIOS files??
