I read some of this thread regarding issues with 7870 OC Blackscreen but it was already closed. What was the conclusion? Do I need to do RMA with this card? It was running in circle I guess based on the discussion..

I played both Dota 2 and F1 2010 the same black screen issue during middle of the game(5~10minutes of playing).. Got the latest 13.1 Catalyst driver for Sapphire HD 7870 Hz Ed 2GB OC version..

    Specs:
    Intel Core i7 3770k/Asrock Z77 Extreme 4/ Seasonic X-650 series/ Sapphire HD 7870 hz Ed 2GB OC version/Seagate 500GB Barracuda/H100i/HAF XM/LG IPS4 Series/Win7 64bit

I would try improving the fan profile in MSI Afterburner, and increase the voltage limit (+20% allowed). The initial Sapphire profile has the fan start at 25% power and go to a maximum of 50%. This can easily lead to overheating. I changed it so that in gaming, the temps were roughly fan speed = temperature. In other words, if my temp is 55 degrees the fan is at 55, and if 65 then 65. It would go up faster though, and 75 would be nearly 85 fan speed (though I never ever reached that). See if this helps.

Since when did they have a 2Ghz 7870? Isn't this a Ghz edition 2 GB?

Try underclocking both Memory and GPU clocks. If underclocking solves the freezing/black screen issue there is something wrong with the card and it need to be RMA'd.

If underclocking doesn't fix your issue it could be the card or drivers.

My suggestion RMA the card, and save yourself the hassle.

RMA again and in the process get another brand or a card without factory overclock.

It's easy decission, check your SKU:
SKU 11199-00/11199-01/11199-02/11199-03 are defective and so RMA is in place.
Just inform them in return notice that you have Black Screen and SKU matching defect.

If you do not have such SKU then problem may be on other place than in card itself.
Since they would likely not return you defective card.

imo windows updates are a great tool for fragmenting the crap out of your os and making it load longer than ever.

slipstream all the updates to a new iso and fresh install.

see if a truly clean load works.

No idea what this is doing here, but fragmentation is what we have SSDs for today.

Another Blue Screen/Static confirmed last night after running 2 ~ 3 hours gaming and browsing..
After doing these steps, still got the issue of BSOD.

    Steps:
    Check Disk
    Reformat New HDD
    Install New Win7 Pro 64bit
Installed all drivers from stack CD
    Installed Antivirus and Antispyware
    Windows update
    Defragged Disk
    Defragged Registry
    Back-up'd
    Run stress test
