Then in that case thatguy is right, I must have uninstalled search without even thinking about it, force of habit...

These tweaks slowed a bit my boot-up speed.

@thatguy91 Thanks to report about that way of stopping performance counters, I'll do some tests with that.

@Memorian Windows is waiting some disabled services to start, which they won't. Maybe slower to boot but snappier when booted.

@tvavra I experienced that a few rare times in the past, never been sure why it happened. I'll come back to you with that in 2-3 days. I have a idea to test who may fix it.

    OK optimization kit take two.

If you used previous optimization kits, reset everything with the defaults files of the same kit before using the new one. Old kits defaults files and new kit defaults are not the same.

Don't use the old ones with Win8! They did changes between Preview version and Release Candidate, you will get stuck by UAC and may need to reinstall Windows completely.

This new one is good/safe for both Win7, Win8 and probably Vista.

For Win8 you can disable Power service, I have leave it auto in the "Services-Optimized" for compatibility with Win7.

You can stop the Win8 WinStore from loading by killing it in Task Manager, then rename the folder C:\Windows\Winstore -> Winstore.bak

In short, run with admin rights
    • Registry All-In-One - Optimized.reg
    • Services - Optimized.cmd
    • Netsh int tcp set - Optimized.cmd
    • Task Scheduler - Optimized.cmd
    • Windows Management Instrumentation Autologger - Optimized.reg
    • Performance Counters - Disable.cmd
    • Disabledynamictick - Yes.cmd (Win8 only)
    Reboot

    @tvavra
This one may fix the network issue. Tell me back.
Or run the files above but use "Services - Default.cmd" instead, so all network services will be there.
The only big performance improvement anyway in Services come from disabling Desktop Window Manager Session Manager (UxSms). Only in Win7.

    @thatguy91
I added your codes in that kit plus some more in registry.

Before uninstalling or installing a new GPU driver, run "Services - Default.cmd" and reboot.

Yes, Windows Management Instrumentation and Windows Event Log are disabled, I expect some install/uninstall programs to fail without it.
But drivers install/uninstall in Device Manager and Windows Update should still work.

Alternatively while still on Services-Optimized, uninstall your network adapter without ticking "Delete the driver software of this device" in Device Manager.
"Scan for hardware changes" then check if Windows recreate one with a bug free configuration.
If you do that, tell me back please.

I have had Client for Microsoft Networks disabled for a long time and Windows Update works fine.

I think it's better to leave enabled the ''Windows Management Instrumentation'' because Samsung Magician Software cannot read properly SSD's information.

I agree that if someone have issues, it's the first thing he should enable back.

My gaming PC is really just for games so I personally don't need it.

I'll leave it auto in future kit releases for "normal" folks sake.

    Yes, I use NVIDIA Inspector.

You can re-enable it in services.msc or edit the cmd file, service "nvsvc" to auto.

They changed throughout time, now it is that:
(I'm on v313.96, this is from an older computer)

In games AA 2X AF 16X.

In BF3 all High but not HBAO, only SSAO. You can see microstuttering with HBAO.

I also enable FXAA for some games like L4D2 and BF:BC2.

The old post you looked for: http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4319472&postcount=212
Those BF3 in-game settings are still the best trade for snappy feeling versus quality.

I leave it enabled, even if you use SSD I think it does speed up things anyway by using a bit of memory. RAM > SSD.
