So I am building a new rig, like my last post. I was going to get a single gpu solution, BUT with the new 8000 series on the cusp of release in just a few months I was thinking to get a mid-range multi-gpu cfx/sli solution instead. I already understand and have come to terms with the micro-stuttering issues and some incompatibility in certain games, which I am fine with. I mostly play BF3, PS2 and games that should be fine with the multi-gpu setup though. The best performance per dollar looks to be the HD 7850 CFX setup. I am running a 60Hz 24'' ACER LED monitor by itself for gaming right now at 1080p. Would this setup be good for my needs. I just want to get 60 FPS in all if not most games with it at ultra/highest settings. Will 7850 CFX be a good choice? Also is 1GB 7850 good enough for my setup? I will be running a 3570 overclocked with an H80i, a Corsair AX 860, Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H, etc

Ok so should I go gtx 660 sli then or 660 ti? I mean 660 probably worth it being cheaper at my resolution and everything right?
1GB VRAM is not good for CF setup, but 2GB version is not worth the money since GTX 660 or HD 7870 can be found for just about 20 bucks more. Looking at performance charts, 7850 CF doesn't seem to be any much faster than a single high end card for the same price. And, of course, multi-GPU will cause some issues, more or less. Just get a single fast card like GTX 670, HD 7970 or HD 7950. Also what's wrong with your current rig? If you have i5 2500K + GTX 670, there's no point in upgrading at all. Except adding a second GTX 670.
I don't have that current rig anymore. I don't want a single card setup, it's just going to be old tech soon when the 8800 come out, atleast if I get a multi-gpu setup I am doing better then any single card solution. It doesn't matter the issues really, I am fine with them actually. So are we thinking GTX 660 or 660 Ti SLi then?
Why isn't the 1GB VRam option for the 7850's not good for cfx? I am only running a single 1080p monitor?
Well it's actually not the 1gb version on BF3 all maxed out, it requires 1.46gb Vram for that, I checked it out. So I think the 7850 2GB if I can find for cheap or GTX 660 SLi maybe, what about 660 ti idk they are a little more expensive and kind of dumb for a single monitor.
CF with 1GB cards should not be an option because of what you said, BF3 needs some vram and probably games like Crysis 3 will ask for more. CF 1GB will only use 1GB, not 1GB+1GB, i think you were thinking this way, correct me if i am wrong.It's the way that dual-gpu works, same for SLI. I read that the 7870/660ti are good for 1920*1080 but new games are coming, we never know.
Yeah, we don't know, but the performance for those two in sli/cfx are better then a single solution as of right now, even 7850 crossfire. But with the AMD CFX issues everyone is talking about probably leaning towards 660/660 Ti SLI right now.
I don't know if 7850 2gb crossfire is a great decision right now, there are a lot of problems people have been talking about on these posts, not a few, a bunch of gurus. The performance is a bit more then a stock 680 and the issues won't really make it worth it compared to a highly overclocked 680 or 7970 GHz.
Dont go crossfire really...i have 2 6850s that i dont use cause of problems..AMD recently are so lame at suporting crossfire option + Stuttering, just see some reviews! Mid-range AMD cards are having issues, the higher end cards are working ok, but yeah that's what I've heard. I am going with CFX 7950 3GBs
