I currently have a 5870 GPU and have been looking to replace it everyone who ive been speaking with locally has told me to get a GTX 670 2GB and i should recieve a large performance boost for a reasonable price.

I was looking at some of the 4GB ones online as well as other cards such as the GTX 680. What are your thoughts?

You will max out every game available today with the 670. I have one running with i5 and always impressed with what it will do. The 670 has received excellent reviews and is bang for the buck, price/performance.

If you think of selling the 5870 on eBay or similar, expect $150. So, now we`re in the $250 range for an awesome card. I gave one of my old cards to my Daughter and the other to a Cousin. Whatever, just thought I would mention selling your card as an option.

that looks like a reference 670. the pcb is noticebly smaller on the reference 670. the 670 ftw has a 680 pcb and a 680 cooler. there are a couple other 670`s on a 680 pcb too. I think it worth a few extra bucks

Idk i really like the backplate, the reviews for the OC'd cards are less than stellar at times, How about 4GB v.s 2GB video memory?

I really dont know too much about the 6xx series, what resolution do you play at? If your going to be playing at 1080 2gb should be enough. 1.5gb is just enough for me to max out games at that resolution.

    cool.

You`re not only buying a 670, but getting an EVGA. Good choice.

If future proof is even real in building these rigs then go for the 4gb version. I say `real` because I always end up building a whole new rig. LOL!

Report back to this thread once your new card is up and running. Thanks

I am in the same boat as you are (I have HD5870x2). This is my feeling now. I recently upgraded my display from p1080 to p1440. If you are going to stick to p1080 in the future, the cards in this generation (GTX670/80, HD7950/70) are excellent, I think. However, if you would like to play games at p1440/1600 now or in the near future, I am getting unconvinced with any of gpus of this generation. I would like to run games such as Crysis 2, Metro 2033, and the future releases such as Crysis 3, Metro Light at the highest quality. These games are and will be very demanding for gpus. I was thinking about GTX680 (4GB)x2 or HD7970x2 for a while. But now it is already getting close to HD8000 release (probably in four to six months) or even GTX780 might appear in the next March. For this reason I am not sure if it is wise to upgrade now. Other than various gpu-intensive games, I love to play various puzzle games which do not need a lot of gpu power. And many games are in fact still very playable at p1440 with my HD5870x2. So I currently hold off playing gpu-taxing games, waiting for the gpus of the next generation.
