Quick question: Based on my rig, should i leave PhysX processing to the GPU or the CPU ? Mainly playing BF3. Thanks !!!
If a game uses Physx, then it's best to use it on the GPU. BF3 does not use Physx, so it does not matter what you set it to.
doesn't matter for BF3. only the following games use GPU PhysX: http://physxinfo.com/index.php?p=gam&f=gpu these games usually won't allow high physx on the CPU, but anyway your card is strong enough to handle GPU PhysX way better than pretty much any CPU, at least with current implementations. edit: kudos to Cyberdyne for posting faster
This list is fairly incomplete. Most Unreal Engine 3 games use PhysX, and many more than displayed on it.
Doesn't change FPS here, and my GPU gets hotter (almost 85ºC vs 70ºC max) when forcing it to be used. Well, there's an automatic setting just to decide that. I believe it looks at pre determined cpu configs and GPU/Vid mem usage, and decides which is going to be more efficient. My CPU is almost always on 45% usage even on new games, so, if it can balance things, it's better! :stewpid:
They use PhysX SDK engine, but do not support GPU acceleration or contain extra PhysX effects. PhysX is used in 340 games (it is fairly popular middleware), but only 19 can really take advantage of NVIDIA cards.
PhysX Just use automatic setting in nvidia control panel, no need to set it differently. will otherwise potentially crash BF3
While my asus 6950 cuda 2 is going back for repairs, I have my 275 GTX vard back in. I have a Intel I7 960 processor and currently 275 gtx, physX is set for cpu. In hellgate london, skyrim and rage, are you saying I would get much better frame rates with physX on my gpu??? I don't know if my 275 is powerful enough(stock clock) to get away with that???
The change is easy, but telling any difference generally requires testing fps.... Too lazy to go through that, I was asking if anyone had experience with the same hardware/games and what the results were.
even a low power GPU is still better than CPU for PhysX... (this is why so much people "recycle" old main GPU as a dedicated PhysX card) generaly your GPU will go hotter, but your eye will say "thx you" lol
