I am still gonna stay with AMD for my upgrade from 5850.

Hey guys i was just thinking my 5850 is getting old but still performing good enough at 1080p resolution.

I play BF 3 with high settings and my fps doesn't go below 40 fps so far so good with 12.4 drivers.

I play skyrim maxed out with no issues and smooth frame rate just love the hd textures pack.

I play anno 2070 also maxed out with no problems at all with beautiful environments and lots of buildings.

I am just glad i went with 5850 toxic for the my first gaming build 2 years ago but now i think i should move on to 79xx and stay with it for a good 3-4 years i think it should be able to handle any game.

So i know 670gtx is a little less prices compared to 7950 but i want to go with the RED TEAM cause i have amd motherboard and it supports only crossfirex at full 16x bandwidth which is not a big deal but still.

I don't want to do a cpu or mobo upgrade anytime soon so i hope my current rig doesn't bottleneck badly the new 7950.

So i am looking at HIS 7950 ICEQ saw a few reviews and benchmarks just loved it and here in india it costs RS 29035.

So what do you guys think about my upgrade from 5850>>>7950 i think i should be able to see a big leap in performance.

I am planning to play witcher 2 and crysis 1 and 2 again with the new card at max settings + eye candy.

 

Well tbh I think your CPU will struggle to run 2 7950's in CF.
Also I don't think 7950 is a big enough jump up from 5850 unless it's just for extra vram...

Imo you'd be better off getting one 7970 if plan to stay with AMD, otherwise grab an ASUS 670CU

weird thing - the 7950 is about $150 cheaper than a 670 here in NZ.

 

Agreed, your cpu is way too weak for crossfire. Best to get a GTX670

 

well damn i bought this damn expensive motherboard for crossfire x16 purpose and i cant crossfire cause of weak cpu.

So if by any chance if i can upgrade my cpu to phenom ii x6 can i crossfire then cause my motherboard doesn't support am3+ cpu.

and ok if cpu upgrade is not worth it then i have to stick to single gpu only.

So should i go 670 only cause i dont think i can afford 680 or 7970.

 

Get the ASUS GTX670 CU II.

Fwiw, most CF users seem to have endless trouble so better off going with one GPU.

Also your PSU will love you for it, since 2x 7950's pull about 400W under load.

 

Yeah i dont see much point in spending more money in an old platform.

 

7970 will blow that 5850 out of the water. Mine does just as good or waY better then my old 6850 crossfire setup. No more stuttering and I can actually use as now without it killing my framerate. Plus super sample as is awesome on oldergames like doom 3.

 

better off with a strong single card. that cpu isnt strong enough to run xfire imo

im with the others on this one too - i'm running 2x 5850s and they are bottlenecked to narm with my 940@3.6Ghz

TBH, nowadays i leave crossfire disabled coz my system lacks the balls to push these cards to their potential...so seriously man, go for the best single gpu you can afford, this leaves you open to crossfire later down the track if you really want..not to mention the hassle free, stutter free, flicker free gameplay you will experience with your shiny new 670.

im trying nvidia this time round, not coz i dislike amd or anything - ive loved my 5850s and for the most part they've been great...but my new build will be intel, so imma go intel + nvidia since its been years since ive had either brands

That sure is an interesting selection of benchmark results.
The first 2 nicely cherry picked examples are easy to interpret, but the others just don't make any sense. They're basically incomparable...

If you don't mind I'll post some that are a lot clearer and easier to understand, starting with the Hexus results you seem to have forgotten about.










And I'm not really a fan of Tom's, but since you used their scores I thought it best to do the same....No 5850 sorry, but that's probably not important considering the gap between the 7850 & 7970.

I agree a 5850 to 7850 is not worth the price for a new card. for amd I recommend a 7950 and oc the snot out of that. plus oc your cpu to 4ghz.
