oc that cpu man. buy why a 2550k? its more money - integrated graphics lol. you basically got less for more $
Ah its already bought don't sweat it. Most likely you will not use it unless you run programs that utilize it.
16 GB is extremely cheap right now, sure it's overkill but you'll never see the prices this low when you need them as the bathtub effect is going to cause DDR3 to go up as DDR4 gets introduced. deltatux
Cuz a lot of retailers are/were selling the i5 2550K for more than the i5 2500K. It's 100mhz faster at stock, but has the iGPU disabled.
It's usually wiser to ask for thoughts before a rig is built than after. Usually you get better feedback and adjust accordingly lol. Regardless of what was chosen here, it looks like it was the upgrade you needed, seeing how your old rig was severely outdated. Do remember to update your profile to reflect your current build so we can better assist you in the future. deltatux
The iGPU could be proven to be useful for video encoding or generally offloading video decoding work on the iGPU for even lower power usage (dedicated GPUs still use more power than IGPs even when they're power gated for video playback). Not a huge loss though. deltatux
Igpu can come handy if his gpu dies. better than nothing. Having igpu as backup helps troubleshooting as well
Depends on the motherboard he chose. If he's using a Z68 or Z77, then sure...he could. If he's using a P67 board, then the iGPU is disabled by the motherboard anyway. If Z68 or Z77, he could also use Lucid Virtu MVP as well.... Of course, with no iGPU, even Virtu MVP is out of the question.
