    750/800/1.12v - 656 points
    900/1025/1.06v - 775 points
918/1025/1.06v - 783 points (limit of this card at 1.06v)
    825/1025/0.96v - Final (Stable)

The memory clock are always on their limit at 1025mhz. There is no way going higher on the memory. I will keep Guru3d posted on my progress.

Note that my notebook runs cooler overclocked with lower voltages than on stock clocks/voltages.

    That's extactly what I think of people overclocking a HD6990 or a GTX580

I really do see much difference when changing from 20fps to 27 for example. But going from 50 to 60 on such a fast graphics card makes me wonder if these people have too much money. Of course you want to squeeze every bit out of your components

Hi djjonastybe, Ok I got RBE and Phoenix tool... reading through some of your threads.... how did you setup your voltages/GPU/Ram settings in the end? Thanks...

EDIT - I made the changes using phoenix to .96V on 825, 1025... flashed.... however I tested and it still reverts back to 1.12V? instead of using .96V Any ideas?

EDIT 2 - It worked ok! My bad..... so, I'm wondering what voltages did you set in the end? Did you go down to .85 for the lowest setting 157/200? max out at .96 at 825/1025? Thanks....

I believe the card needs at least 0.90v to run at :) so you can't go lower.

0.96v 825/1025 is to play safe.

The memory clock can't go higher than 1025. But you can however try getting the core up to 900. But that is going to be dangerous. The clocks and voltages you have should be perfect.

To see my voltages and clocks I use windows 7 gadget GPU Observer. Which is rather primitive but works.

I'm running 825/1025 at .96V..... awesome! Everything runs a lot cooler... and the laptop fan isn't going on every 5 seconds. Great job man!

Could the overclocked/undervolted BIOS for the Studio 1558/HD5470 please be posted by a kind soul with pity on an technically (+/- intellectually) challenged newbie? I would be very grateful (as would my wife, who has already suffered the brunt of my unproductive BIOS fiddling).

ATI Tray Tools to the Rescue!!!

    @Firehand and bormeth
After some tediously long hours, I’ve figured out a way how to reliably set/change ALL three parameters for ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 card:
    1. Core Clock
    2. Memory Clock
    3. Voltage
I used the values from this forum (825/1025 at 0.96v).

Allright, let me walk you through how I went about it. I used no BIOS flashing or the like.
Before starting out, I already was able to use MSI Afterburner to set the Core and Memory clocks for the GPU, but the Voltage was grayed out/unavailable for tinkering, even after ticking the box for “Unlock Voltage Control”. I was searching for a way to control voltage as well.

Below I outline my odyssey to find the best solution. If you want to cut to the chase, go to part II, since *spoiler spoiler* part I did not fully work.

Part 0: Make sure you’re updated to the latest 11.10 build from here:
    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=353265
PART I: Make sure you have the latest MSI Afterburner
First, I went to update MSI Afterburner from 2.1 to the latest 2.2.0 Beta 8 build from here.
    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=351678
After installing it, don’t run it right off the bat. Follow the instructions from this website on how to unlock unofficial overclocking from here:
    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=338906
After performing the 2-step procedure (inputting the text and changing value from 0 to 1 for UnofficialOverclockingMode) in the cpl file, then can run the .exe as administrator (compatibility: Administrator privileges). What I do is open it up, edit, save to desktop (to avoid UAC flags saving into C drive, then just copy and paste over the old file)
Results: MSI Afterburner 2.2.0 Beta 8 now correctly identifies which build (11.10) my GPU is at. Has some more functions, but the “Unlock Voltage Control” is still unresponsive, even after exiting/restarting. Thus, the journey continues onto part 2.
Part II: I was led to download Radeon BIOS Editor – but I ended up not even installing it and exploring this BIOS option route.
Rationale: I’m wary of messing with BIOS directly, but if you’re comfortable, go on right ahead, I just don’t know how to proceed to use this resource.
    http://www.techpowerup.com/rbe/

PART II: ATI Tray Tools to the RESCUE!!!!! (and with pretty pictures!)
This is the bees knees – from now on, I’m using this handy dandy program over MSI Afterburner for all my tweaking and overclocking needs.
Its installation is a bit tricky, but once you get it setup, it’s VERY easy to alter ALL three primary settings (core and memory clocks AND voltage) Read on further to find out!
Step 1: Download ATI Tray Tools from here:
    http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733
*Don’t run anything yet, it’s not ready, it’ll crash*
Step 2: Obtain working service file for ATTtraytools from here:
    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=310737
Follow the instructions carefully (especially the part of replacing the old file with the new one provided), especially helpful were the following from user npore:
“Make sure the attdrv64srv.exe file is in the ATT directory.
Right click on the file and click properties.
Check that the 'run this programme as an administrator' box, under the compatibility tab, is ticked.

Use the Run dialogue - open it by pressing the windows key + 'R'

    Pop this in:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ray Adams\ATI Tray Tools\ATTdrv64srv.exe" /install

Restart. All should be sweet. If it still doesn't work, wait for everything to start up, then try run ATT. It should work. If this keeps happening you may need to delay ATT starting up, say by 30s, for the service to be running before it does.”
Restart. Before running ATI Tray Tools. ESC+ALT+DEL, check Task Manager>Services to make sure that the new service file driver attdrv64 is listed.
Note: For me, at this point, all was not swell … after I restarted, a warning error message popped identifying the new service installed attdrv64srv as unsigned and potentially dangerous. This is just over-restrictive Windows BS.
Instead of messing with UAC controls or further messing with services, I turned to yet another program to fix things for me, as suggested by AHPD user
Step 3: Install and configure Driver Signature Overrider from here:
    http://www.*****.com/home.php?page=dseo
    1. First run just add the new service again, so then this program recognizes it.
    2. Second run, add it as a system file. Voila done!
    3. User AHPD also said to do some Watermark process from this Driver Overrider (it’s some post-processing clean-up utility as I understand) but I didn’t do it and my ATI tray tools still worked and all overclocking settings stuck well/worked
Step 4: Restart again. This time pay attention so that Windows doesn’t yell out at you. If it doesn’t, then all is well. Attdrv64s service file driver is now a system file and runs upon startup. Great!
FINALLY, time to run ATI Tray Tools (as always, as administrator, compatibility mode)
    1. Manage Profiles. Create a new profile for any software (later you can make it run at startup)
    2. Hardware>Overclocking Settings…
    a. Should be pretty self-explanatory from here
    b. Core Speed sliders can be adjusted
    c. Memory speed slider can be adjusted
    3. Voltage tuning is a bit different, but here’s how to do it
    a. To the right of voltage, there is the stock voltage number (1.12 for this card)
    b. To the right of that, click on the “…” button
    c. Custom VDDC>Create New (new graphic button leftmost)
    i. New NDDC setting: left-most button, blank notepad page graphic
ii. Open/Edit existing setting: Middle button, open folder graphic
iii. Delete setting right-most button, Cross-over graphic
    d. VDDC value of 960 corresponds to 0.96 Volts. Adjust as you’d like I just followed recommendation from this thread.
    Here’s a picture:

    I hope this helps.

And the pros and veterans out there. Feel free to wreck my strat and offer something more elegant and better. I’d love to know whether my solution is stable enough or are there more stable solutions available?
    Best regards,

Just wanted to say thanks to everybody. This is really helpful.

I've followed Nomadic's directions, but I have a problem with the Memory Speed.

I did everything step-by-step and entered the correct numbers, but when I hit Apply, the Memory Speed jumps from 1025 to some ridiculously high number like 3974.75.

I don't know why this is happening, since I followed everything correctly.

Could any kind soul help me out? Thanks.

Hey all, I've been playing around with my Studio 1558 overclocking settings, and whenever I set them to the recommended settings here I get the display error "Display driver has stopped working and has recovered." Did any of yall get this and if so how did you solve it. I suspect it is an insufficient power problem.

Donguri, I have made the voltage stick only once, I'm afraid.

I backed up all my data. Then, I performed my usual "Restore to Factory Settings" that I do every new year for my laptop. Then I go through updating, upgrading everything again. Each time, I make sure to have less clutter and background programs.

So, when I came finally around to overclocking this GPU, I ran into the same snag as you. It seems that ATI Tools really doesn't "stick" and presents ridiculously high values like 3974.75

With core and memory speeds, the latest MSI Afterburner v2.2.0 Beta 15 (as of 4/7/2012) seems to do a great job of controlling and sticking core and memory clocks. Not to mention sticking the fan control (though it's debatable whether it actually sticks, or just says it does)

So without further ado, I am in the same boat. How to change the voltage for this GPU? How did the OP and several others successfully undervolt? I figure it's through custom BIOS flashing, but I'm not as well acquainted with that process as I am with third-party software like Afterburner, RivaTuner, ATI Tray Tools, D3DOverrider, and RadeonPro.

Please, OP or somebody who was able to change all three, crucically the voltage, please respond with a detailed walkthrough of how you did it? Pretty please? I really need this lappy to run cooler lawlz

    Please help somebody!

In the meantime, here's what I found to work. I think.

Check out the following, ThrottleStop Guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...arket-upgrades/531329-throttlestop-guide.html

The stock voltage Set Multiplier starts out as 10.0 for this laptop. With ThrottleStop software tweaking and creating a new runtime task for it with Task Scheduler, I managed set it down by one to 9.0 in order to undervolt, trying to reach lower temperatures. If I wanted to overvolt, I would increase by one, or until maximum allowed under TurboBoost, all the time. However, I think that overvolting on this already overheating laptop is not such a good idea.

I'm testing whether I will witness lower temps with this change. I'm testing it on Skyrim, Mass Effect 2 and 3, Starcraft 2, Counter Strike and a couple other games like Mount & Blade: Warband.

So far with Skyrim, I was able to reach 35-6fps nearly constant, without overheating (however lower resolution might just be it) - before the best I could do was 24-26fps. Goes up to 80 degrees Celsius, but not like before 90+ degrees Celsius. The GPU usage is still high 80%+, which is good.

I am not overcloking, running at stock speeds (core 750, memory 800). I'm afraid I get artifacts with (core 825, memory 1025). However, I am manually controlling fans at 100% all the time.

So far, with minimal data and just anecdotal evidence, I seem to have cooler temps, by about 10-12 degrees, which is substantial for this rig. Still, I'd like more fine-tuned control over the voltage. I'm just not sure how much is 1.0 increment of Set Multiplier converts to volage.

Stock Set Multiplier of 10.0 correponds to stock voltage of 1.12V
However, I'm not sure whether Set Multiplier of 9.0 would correspond neatly to stock voltage of 0.960 that I want, since it has been validated by this thread's OP.

Lastly, any pros/veterans out, please enlighten us on the best, optimal way to control voltage for undervolting or overvolting purposes. I'm just not sure that ThrottleStop is still the go-to stop for this.

Hello everybody, i need some help here:

1 Why Afterburner freezes on launch and what can i do to solve it? I tried several relases included some betas, tried different versions of CCC and still freezing, the same happens with ATI Tray Tools.

2 How can i control the fan speed?

3 Where can i get the ATTdrv64srv.exe file?

4 Somebody can make the BIOS edition tutorial or post their modded BIOS?

5 Which voltage i need for 850/980 clocks? i used this combination like 1 year with rivatuner and works well in all games.

    DELL STUDIO 1558

    THANK YOU :)
