Hi everyone, its been a while since I last logged in - mostly due to university and being away from home and my PC lol. Anyways, I hope you are all doing great. I am home for spring break and my dad has asked me to create a website for him. I really have no clue so I went straight to google. I found a bunch of different sites but I'm not sure which one I should go with. I was hoping some of you here would know since a lot of the gurus here are very tech savvy I just want to create a simple website for him, he just started up his own construction business so nothing too fancy. Thanks in advance! btw, I found this website called homestead on google and basically it lets me choose a template and add my own things to the website and it costs $5/month. Should I go with that or is there something better out there thats more suited for my needs.
A lot of ISPs offer free web hosting with your internet service. You should check to see if yours offers any first before paying anything extra.
You can create website's using wordpress,it's free minus the hosting costs. Check youtube how to use wordpress,it's very simple!
Deltalux recommended this site quite a while ago. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=338603 Hmm, just checked that site out: Seems iWeb is here now: http://iweb.com/
alright thanks guys. I still gotta do some more research on this it seems. I will give my ISP a call about the web hosting because I don't see anything pertaining to it on their website.
I called my ISP and they do not offer hosting...Also, according to this website (http://www.4creatingawebsite.com/choose_web_host.htm), act now domains and ipower are two very good hosting domains. Which one should I go with? They both have free website building tools but iPower has unlimited disk space, bandwidth and also comes with a free domain name. Keep in mind that this will be a simple website with a few pages of information and some images of my dad's previous work. ipower: http://www.ipower.com/ipower/web-hosting/unix-pro-plan.bml act now domains: http://www.securepaynet.net/hosting/web-hosting2.aspx?ci=1783&prog_id=ActNowDomains I was leaning towards iPower due to a better overall package but I just want an opinion from someone who knows more about this stuff than I do. Thanks.
Don't know about Canada, but in the UK you can use people like 123reg << link They let you buy your domain name (Website address) and host the site and have website builders all in one place for like £2.49 p/m
Well, 123reg hosting is quite similar to the ones I posted, so I presume I am heading in the right direction right? Should I go ahead and get one of those?
lol sounds like a plan! I'll have a secret section on there just for you. gotcha thanks. Regarding the disk space, how much do you guys think I will need? It'll only have text/bunch of images and MAYBE a couple of videos.
When I've had small business sites setup I've always put them on Dreamhost. It's $8.95 a month and you get unlimited space. They have lots of 1 click install options in their portal as well which would make it super quick for you to get something rolling. You can also host multiple sites under 1 shared hosting account if you are so inclined. http://dreamhost.com/web-hosting/ This one has been the most reliable for me in terms of cheap shared hosting.
