So i have 2 x Asus DCU2's in my PC and i wish to connect the first card to all 3 of my monitors with display port cables for Eyefinity. How the hell does this work, do i need these stupid active adapters or what? I was assuming that using a standard display port cable from the video card to each monitor should work fine but all the cables say max res is 1080p...? Are the active adapters only needed when going from display port to other connections or?

I was planning on getting 3 of these http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=19_621_1140&products_id=17017

Anyone who knows how these stupid cables work please help me out!

    Thank you!

My Sapphire 7970 shipped with a DP-to-DVI active adapter.

The DP connections on my 7970 are miniDP. My monitor is an Asus PA246Q. It takes a full-sized DP connector, like the cable that you you link to. The card came with one miniDP to DP adapter, which I'm using.

I've never used multiple monitors at home, but I suggest that you read this page:

    http://www.amd.com/us/products/tech...gy/for-consumers/Pages/what-is-eyefinity.aspx

    Here's the relevant part:

What are the basic requirements for connecting multiple displays?

Connecting multiple monitors for AMD Eyefinity technology couldn’t be simpler. There are four easy rules to remember:

1.The first two monitors can connect to the graphics card with any display output on your product: HDMI, VGA, DVI or DisplayPort.

2.The third (or greater) display must be connected to the graphics card via DisplayPort.

3.If your monitor does not have a DisplayPort connection, you will need an inexpensive active DisplayPort adapter for it. DVI to DP adapters can be had for less than $30 USD.2

4.Every family of GPUs supports a different maximum number of displays.

If you're buying new DP cables, you might consider ones that don't need adapters, like:

    http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-6-Fe...YZ82/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1331002961&sr=8-4

(There are cheaper or more expensive ones, if you'd like.)

I don't know why you're getting other than the native resolution of the display. My Asus display is running at its native resolution, 1920X1200, same as the U2412M. I installed the monitor drivers. Did you do that for yours?

There may be newer drivers, but these may help:

I haven't actually connected the monitors to the card as i haven't purchased cables due to confusion over what will work and wont. My monitors have standard 'display port' ports and the video card has 4 'display port' ports so i was just assuming i'd be able to use any standard display port cables to hook everything up.

I didn't realize that the Asus card comes with full-sized ports, rather than the mini ports. I guess you want cables with full sized connectors at both ends, as you linked to.

I also didn't know that it was a 3 slot monster.

What was with the "1080p" bit, if you haven't connected the monitors and the card?

The cables i linked to say up to 1080p, where as the monitors i have are 1920x1200.

Would be quite weird if they didn't go to above that. Probably just so laymen don't get confused that there are other resolutions than 1080p...

I guess my powers of observation were not the best yesterday.

I suppose that it's possible that the cables won't work well above 1920X1080. Seems extremely unlikely, though. I believe that the Display Port interface supports the highest resolution monitors currently available (2560X1600).

I suggest that you spend a little time searching online before pulling the trigger on a cable purchase. The range in prices for the same products is unbelievable. Examples:

    http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-540...4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1331069226&sr=1-4

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812196862

$8.79 or $25.99 (for qty. 2-4), for the same cable.
