So i have 2 x Asus DCU2's in my PC and i wish to connect the first card to all 3 of my monitors with display port cables for Eyefinity. How the hell does this work, do i need these stupid active adapters or what? I was assuming that using a standard display port cable from the video card to each monitor should work fine but all the cables say max res is 1080p...? Are the active adapters only needed when going from display port to other connections or? My Sapphire 7970 shipped with a DP-to-DVI active adapter. The DP connections on my 7970 are miniDP. My monitor is an Asus PA246Q. It takes a full-sized DP connector, like the cable that you you link to. The card came with one miniDP to DP adapter, which I'm using. DVI to DP adapters can be had for less than $30 USD.2 4.Every family of GPUs supports a different maximum number of displays. I don't know why you're getting other than the native resolution of the display. My Asus display is running at its native resolution, 1920X1200, same as the U2412M. I installed the monitor drivers. I haven't actually connected the monitors to the card as i haven't purchased cables due to confusion over what will work and wont. My monitors have standard 'display port' ports and the video card has 4 'display port' ports so i was just assuming i'd be able to use any standard display port cables to hook everything up.
I didn't realize that the Asus card comes with full-sized ports, rather than the mini ports. I guess you want cables with full sized connectors at both ends, as you linked to. I also didn't know that it was a 3 slot monster. What was with the "1080p" bit, if you haven't connected the monitors and the card?
Would be quite weird if they didn't go to above that. Probably just so laymen don't get confused that there are other resolutions than 1080p...
I guess my powers of observation were not the best yesterday. I suppose that it's possible that the cables won't work well above 1920X1080. Seems extremely unlikely, though. I believe that the Display Port interface supports the highest resolution monitors currently available (2560X1600). I suggest that you spend a little time searching online before pulling the trigger on a cable purchase. The range in prices for the same products is unbelievable.
