I just bought the 7970 today. I unisntalled my old 5870 drivers then used driver sweeper. restarted then removed the card. Put the new card in and installed 12.2 cataylst and it didn't identify it. Windows started and it identified it as "standered vga graphics card". I had this problem long time ago and i know there is a work around. Please help.

Goto Device Manager, right click the vga adapter, properties, driver tab
Click update driver and point it to the driver within the ATI folder on the root of drive C:
(the installation folder gets left on drive C: when you install the driver)

Be sure to find the driver folder which has the .inf file in it.

I can't find it. I tried uninstalling then installing it again. It was insatlled under C:/programfiels/ati technologies. I can't seem to find an .inf file. Any hints/ advice?

EDIT: I have program files and program files x86 and both have the an AMD folder, ATI folder and ATI technologies folder?! now I'm confused. Where should I look?

There should be an ATI folder on the root of drive C:.
Go in there and search for inf

Maybe things have changed a little, I used ATI drivers a year ago.
Try searching for inf in the folder you found.

I don't have an ATI folder on drive c root. I have an AMD and inside it there folders of every single driver that I installed since 10.9. and of course each one has sub folder.

OK now its called AMD not ATI.
Go in to the folder of the driver version you just installed.

As above, thats the only driver for the 7900's at present, 7900 support doesn't start until sometime in March, with the 12.3s.
