I don't post much anymore,but I think it's time to upgrade my ancient Core2 for either a Amd 9600t quad core and Asus motherboard,or would I be better off going with an Intel i3 setup? This will be used mostly for Fallout 3 and Dawn of War, I don't game much anymore. Thanks
If you're going to upgrade you may as well get a quad....seems like a wasted effort going from one dual core to another.
^ Agreed... an i5 quad would last you much longer performance wise for the money spent. What’s the budget? Looking at your specs, things I would upgrade are: MB w\sata3, i5 quad, 8gb ram, 60gb ssd for OS and if you’re still using Vista x32 upgrade to 7 x64... this may be pushing the budget.
get 2500k and you won't need cpu upgrade for a while. (Still happy on stocks here) Price is not that much different from other i5, but it does have better cost performance (not to mention oc). If needed, you can just get a better video card and play all games without having your cpu hitting roof (overclock dat ass if it does). 2500k + ASUS P8Z68-V looks like a perfect match to me. Thanks for the replies,I don't wanna go over 350 bucks for the chip,ram and motherboard. I gotta update my details,I now have a 460gtx that I really like so that's staying and I will be upgrading to Windows seven too,that's something I shoulda done ages ago lol
Having in mind your budget, I would also go for quad AMD instead of dual-core i3. It will be more future-proof. 2500k is great and I highly recommend it if you can stretch your budget, because it will last you much longer than AMD, especially when OC'ed. Just remember, that AMD box coolers are very noisy, so if you like silence try to look for aftermarket cooler also.

+1 to Clawhamer suggestion. It will give you more perfomance in games, current and future. And you will be still within your budget.

... I know, I know... Foxconn... hahahah. I’ve used them in builds before without issue, and do recommend them for budget builds. Between the Foxconn and the ASRock that Postalisback linked to; the ASRock looks like the better of the two. Check reviews for both and see what other options are available for MBs at this price point.
ASRock P67 PRO3 is very nice motherboard for that price. I've been considering it at the time when I was looking for one. Finally went with more expensive P67 Extreme4 because PCI-E slots and layout. With the latest BIOS stability of PRO3 is greatly improved, especially when overclocking. Overall, very nice budget motherboard that has everything you need.

Looks OK but the ram heatspreaders look quite tall, so make sure they'll fit under the CPU cooler.... You could prob run the memory at 1600mhz without any trouble.

If you don't plan to use integrated grpahic card (Intel HD3000) then check for P67 chipset-based motherboards. You will save some $$.
