    Unlocked 6950
Hey Robcar, I sure will. But I have a confession, I don't know how

I have some spare time on my hands, I'll google how to do it and update my post shortly mate :)

OK, I used GPU-Z. Hope it works for you.

Hi, did you try this yet ?
because i seem to be in the same boat as you are (no way of getting shaders unlocked)

So i am kinda curious about this :)

It's unlocked as the shader count is now the same as the hd 6970 i.e 1536 shaders, but you'd have to clock the core and memory to higher to increase the pixel/texture fill rates and the memory bandwidth.

Will doing that be worth it? how much performance do you get more?? vs. just unlocking the shaders??

    Also that's it!

    is it exactly like a 6970 2gb??

that's the only different between the 6950 and 6970?? just extra shaders?

yes the only real difference is the shaders which are hardware based, other than that it's only the clocks which can be increased on a 6950.

Overall the 6970 is roughly 15% faster and the shaders are roughly 5% of that.

Well, I received my Twin fan Sapphire 6950 today, it has the 520SA model number, and the bios switch. I will probably install it Friday after work. So, I just uninstall current drivers, remove the old card, install new card with the switch in position 2 ( furthest from the crossfire connector ) boot up, install the drivers, then check GPU-Z to see if the shaders unlocked? Then, if I feel adventurous, try a little o/c with Trixx? I sure hope the shaders unlock!!

    Unlocking shaders with increased voltage?

I've tried multiple BIOSes on my Sapphire 6950 (the original one) - I bought it 2nd hand and flashed it before I knew what I was doing.

I've hand edited the BIOS using RBE to 1.3V (and 300MHz) using these options:

I have no indication that they changed anything (suppose I could fc them), but other than a smoking computer, not sure what I'd notice.

So did I do this right and is my card definitively stuck with 1408 shaders?

    Hi all,

i have try all things, but it's not working.

Can anyone upload an unlocked bios for the Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 NON Dirt 3 edition? My SKU finish in 20G and the PN in 520SA

I need a BIOS of an exact card.

    Thanks :)

    Sweeet!

Wasn't expecting anything! Just flipped the switch as I put it in the case for the first time. Then had a run on BF3 and this is what it looked like just as I came out of the game.

    It ran fine.

Now I'll look into using Trixx to maximise the potential. I dont want to go crazy. I want a stable, long lasting system. And i only have a 600W cheap PSU (OCZ StealthXStream) and a crap motherbord (GA-M720-US3) - which doesnt even support AMD Overdrive and is only DDR2.

Any suggestions for settings in Trixx?

BF3 with the old settings I used with my 8800GT = over 110 FPS
BF3 on ultra, all maxxed = over 40 FPS

So far, definitely glad I went for a 6950 over a 560 ti. It was a struggle, coz the 8800GT was such a good card for all those years. But it looks like ATI is back.

Now just bump the clocks on that and you're good to go

Success !! All I did was move the switch before installing, and I have the additional shaders.

Well, I got my Dirt 3 6950 (520SA version), that says "Cayman" in GPUZ, and it also says "W/ DUAL FAN AND BIOS" but I installed it and played it with normal stock settings for a day, then today when I tried flipping it, shaders were still at 1408.

I tried removing all drivers, turning off computer, then flipping switch and re-installing drivers, no success. I also just tried flipping the switch, stilll didn't work. When I run RBE for some reason it doesn't show any info so I can't/don't know how to flash it.

Should I RMA my card or am I doing something wrong? ;/
Do I need to physically remove it from the pcie slot too?

I flipped the switch on mine before I installed it and the shaders unlocked. Not sure if it a crap shoot on whether the card will unlock or not, but, luckily, mine did.

As an early adopter of this model number.Couple of questions. Can this be flashed to a 6970. Without raising my gpu voltage causing extra heat higher wattage and having a dustbuster. Just a reminder of the flash increase without doing the other tasks. GPU=880 and memory=1375.

Since most of us is flashing to 6970 specs by keeping our 6950 bios, does anyone know of the 6970 fan settings under RBE?

    Sapphire 6950 2gb "Dirt3"
Hi, I was trying to flash my Sapphire 6950 2gb Dirt 3 Edition to 6970 but

I messed one bios, and when i tried to recover it by switching bios while my computer was running, i messed the other one.

I tried atiflash with dos command but i got an error "adapter not found"

and i tried the bios bypass thing, also didn't work

    :wanker:

    Thanks
