Hello, Which would be better for gaming only? FX 4100 and HD 6950 or Core i5 2500K and HD 6850 ? Because the price is the same. And is there any difference in performace between 970, 990X and 990FX chipsets? Or some Intel chipsets? If it is, which should i go for? Thank you
Go for i5 2500k + 6950 2gb and you're set. i've seen those gpus go for around 220$ nowdays. bargain imo
I would say definately the 4100, 6950 is the better choice, alot of intel lovers will bitch at that but, a quad @ 3.6Ghz is more than good enough for any title right now, and the 6950 over the 6850 is a huge difference in your overall framerate. I would bet money in almost any 3D bench the 4100/6950 would beat the 2500/6850 everytime. PS. not saying the 4100 is better than the 2500, but the difference is slim. the difference between the 6850 and 6950 is huge though
Even so i'd still go for the 2500k platform...but if you'd squeeze your pockets a bit more and get the 6950 2gb along that 2500k it would be great, you won't have trouble running your games at highest settings.
But if i should choose between those two? Which should i go for more FPS? I5 + 6850 or FX + 6950? And could someone comment about chipsets i asked? Thanks.
ofc the 2500k + 6950 would be the best option but i think he knows this already xD think getting the cheaper cpu + better gpu will give you the best result if you play "decent" resolution.
The 2500K is the same price as the 4100? You'd have to know nothing about computers to buy the AMD processor here.
Wow! I can see where this thread is going. You can't have your cake and eat it too so ultimately you will need to make the decision on which you would rather have. My vote goes toward a Z68/2500K combo with the fastest video card you can afford. On the FX4100 side of things what good is having a 6950 if it is going to be bottlenecked in at least certain titles. FX4100 only has two floating point units and a much lower IPC. Rather see 99% GPU usage in all my games with the 2500K/6850.
the 4100/6950 combo will yield better FPS than 2500/6850 the chipsets will all perform about the same speed (970/990X/990FX) the main difference is how many PCI-E lanes the chipset has, don't worry about that unless you plan on running more than one GPU, in other words the 970 is fine for one GPU, the 990X is better for 2 GPU's, the 990FX has the most lanes and is better for 2 or more GPU's
Here is the thing to think about. You can easily upgrade your GPU later...but to upgrade your CPU, you usually need a new board, new RAM, on top of a new chip. 2500K at stock is faster than yours @ 4GHZ. Any 2500K can hit 4.5GHZ easily and trounce anything AMD has by 200%. Upgrading your GPU is alot simpler. I'd get a better CPU now, and a better GPU later. IF you're a gamer, Intel is the only way.
For gaming, I gotta give the edge to Intel's Sandy Bridge processors. However if you absolutely can't save a bit more and get a 2500k with a 6950, I'd go the AMD route. For gaming that 6950 will give you a better increase than an i5 would. Plus AMD processors are still respectable in terms of performance, especially if you overclock them. But, like many have said, your best bet would be to save up for the i5 and 6950 combo.
Id wait to see what nvidias new graphics card has to offer first. And in my experience, ATi/AMD has never really had good drivers for their graphics card and sometimes can be troublesome in some games.
From only the choices listed, I'd def take the 6950 + FX4100. A GFX card is more important for gaming than a CPU... Otherwise I'd get either a 2500/2600 + 6950, and if you can't afford the CPU then prob an X4 or X6 + 6950 instead of BD. Either way the gfx card should be your priority....AMD drivers are OK as long as you don't use CFX..
