AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE Overclocking Help

OK so I've tried booting with 3.8GHz @ 1.4V, 1.425V, and 1.45V with LLC set to 100%. I've bluescreened on or just after windows login. Should I stick with 1.45V and step that LLC down until I boot?

 

I've booted with 3.8GHz @ 1.45v with LLC set to 80%. I haven't bluescreened yet. Hmm

 

^Sounds like ur making progress...

You can drop the LLC lower if you want, but first we need to find your max OC and lowest stable volts.
If LLC is too low it'll make your OC fail when the cpu is under load..

So looks like you need 1.45v for 3.8, so raise your multi another notch to get 3900 but don't raise the vcore till it bsod's.

Btw virtual machine should be disabled under cpu settings.

 

OK I'm sure it won't bluescreen on desktop - but I have a question.. for this kind of testing should I put running the In-place large FFTs test, Blend, or Small FFTs? I have been using the In-place large FFTs test

 

Small should be enough imh, a lot of people use blend but I don't.

 

It sure was enough to make me bluescreen lol, trying @50% LLC

 

^You need to raise llc not lower it if it bsod's under load. Just set it at 100% for now while you testing with prime.

 

I can't boot if I go any higher than 80% though - I bluescreen on windows login :S

50% hasn't blow up on prime yet. It has only been 5 minutes but that's 5 minutes longer than anything else! I'll let this sit for a bit. I still don't really understand LLC though >.>;

 

LLC compensates for vdroop. Vdroop is when the vcore drops due to the CPU having a load put on it.

i dont like anything more than 50% llc, higher than that shoots voltage up way too much. Id rather have a higher vcore with a lower LLC % than lower vcore with a higher LLC %.

 

well I bluescreened about 10 minutes in with 50% so I'm trying 35% LLC, still at 3.8GHz with voltage set to 1.45V. AIDA65 suggests that I never pass 1.424V though

 

I cant OC my 965 BE over 3.8 myself no matter what I do!! I wish I could do 4.2

 

Lol that doesn't prove anything. Just being able to get to CPUZ doesn't mean a whole lot. There's simply no way you're actually using the chip at those settings 24/7 and getting full stability.

2 and 1/2 hours on prime so far - seems to be doing ok with 30% LLC and 1.45V with 3.8 GHz. I wonder if trying to clock higher will require more or less LLC? or the same?

Going to let prime run during the night, I'll update in the morning.

same llc but more vcore most likely.

 

It bluescreened around 8am apparently - so prime95 ran for 8h30 minutes. Should I try continuing to lower the LLC slightly, or maybe up the voltage?

 

Booting and validation is one thing, running Prime 95 for a few hours will kill it straight away, there is no way a 955 is stable @ 4.2Ghz @ 1.35v

1.35v is the stock voltage for the 965 @ 3.4GHz
