Wait for the 7970, it overclocks very well on stock voltage. Rivals the top end dual cards and beats the GTX 580 is many games. Also you have the added joy of zero crossfire issues on a single card solution.

I think that 6990 is more powerfull than 7970, and is cheaper in my situation, cause i have 6990 for gtx 580 price. So i think-changing gtx 580 for HD 6990 with almost the same price is great decision. What do you think guys? Iw ill be happy with that piece of masterpiece??:p

Your Gigabyte 580 SOC is a great card. You should be running everything more or less maxed @ 1920x1200. Swapping it for a 6990 may gain you a small performance increase but opens you up to the possibility of crossfire issues.

    Not worth it IMO.

I`m waiting for my sapphire radeon 6990. I think that was a good choice. Battlefield 3 will run on ULTRA without any stupid deeps with gtx 580:p

6990 is an awesome card but be prepared to spend a lot of money if you want to get more out of it. The only custom cooler is $150 and water cooling is expensive. You need to go either of these routes if you want to get high overclocks and not have a jet engine in your case.

I have a powercolor 6990 - and ive definately never regretted purchasing it.

If you can accept that some games (such as BF3) run great on crossfire/on the 6990 - but some, like skyrim, can run worse on a 6990 - that is.

It's very driver dependant. However this said I wouldnt say it'll put me off say the 7 series dual GPU ;) (reviews dependant!)

I have loud cpu cooler called "Thermaltake FRIO OCK" it`s a master with coolers but it`s loud. I know that HD6990`s cooler is like starting jet-so what?:p. Major thing for me is the performane and nothing else.I`think that will be fine with this GPU.

Min is around 50-55 max is 60 since I enabled vsync, but you should be able to get over 100+ frames depending on the level.

This is with 11.11c driver (preview 3)

I know you should ideally buy a good branded psu, now i know why..... Only had 6990 since xmas and its blown my two month old psu. good news is my retailer issued me a credit note, the bad news is i had to buy a more expensive psu.
The moral of the story is, don't skimp on important components, which im sure you are all already aware of.

The corsair is my replacement and its fab . i might be imagining it but bf3 runs more stable at a steady 60 fps . my 2 month old psu was a powercool ......cack
Still having probs with skyrim , crysis and crysis warhead. my old single unlocked 6950 run all 3 at better frames and stability than my 6990, which is annoying really as i expected better.

Anyone else with a 6990 get frame drops in bf3?. thought this card was meant to be the dogs? or is it my card? Tried all sort of settings, its still dropping down to low 50's but you can really tell (ie its not smooth), seems to happen when flying choppers in gulf Oman. currently using 12.1a preview.

Hello. I`m playing on ULTRA settings and AA off. I have 70-170 FPS all the time. Yesterday i put on it Accelero Twin turbo 6990 - IT`s incredible and awesome. 59`c when playing BF3 on unlocked mode(880 Mhz) at 50% fan speed. I don`t know why automatic fan speed controll is not working for me. I think that high core temperature is guilty of microstuttering. Now when temps are low all issues was gone. 99$ for this cooler i much but worth. Oh. My CAP settings is DEFAULT.

About FPS drops. On ULTRA with 4xAA i have drops to low 50`s too.

Same as You 12.1a, and V-SYNC OFF. Somebody can say"50-60 FPS is perfectly fine" but personally i can say " NOT FOR THIS GAME" That`s the reason why i`m playing without AA. I tried do some mess and i saw min. 70 fps wchich is coll for me. Mostly i have about 110 FPS. This card is awesome and i want to tell You guys one more thing. I was testing a new 7970 and our "old" card is much much faster. 7970 is very hot and loud. Price is about the same as 6990. My choose was great. I wonder why the PWM of my new cooler is not working. Any sugestions?
